sad times when NRL fans celebrate winning a ratings time slot in their own heartland for a final.
There's not a lot to crow about at the moment.

NRLW R1 down 26% on NRL R1 last year.

of course it would be with a start time of 11:30am compared to last year.

Storm rated 76k on primary channel last night compared to 149k for the Lions on FN. Melbourne has double the population too which suggests lions are 4 times more popular on TV in their home market
lol lol

i think it has more do to that the AFL has based it self in QLD ?? don't you recan ?

kinda strange that it hits it highest figure outside of Grand Final ever..

this year has had everything, things will resume as per normal next year.

nrl needs an audience of 1.2m today to catch years Week 1 finals, and audience of 2.23m to catch up to the AFL.

At the moment its NRL 72.8 to the AFL 94.8m. (without preseasons and womens competitions)
be lucky to hit 800k for todays game.

Quarter Finals in NRL are pretty much the same as the H&A season>> ratings wise.
you can see the effect with no QLD clubs in finals has on ratings for NRL come finals time.

Wookie you posted the AFL's regular season totalled 75.7m . With about 5.5m for the 1st round of semis. That works out about 81.1m.

I mean I guess you could say that's where being a truly national comp comes in handy. Not having to rely on one state and more chances of each state being represented at least once (with NSW being the only state with a team that didn't make finals this year)

why would the AFL being based in QLD make a difference to QLD's ratings?

I like just comparing the two season head to head. But that’s me.

as predicted - with a week to go in the NRL season, the AFL leads 75.7m to 66.8m - a gap of around 8.9m. one more round of the NRL (Rd ave 3.5m), plus finals where the AFL generally does a lot better across the series. Origin will need to be a belter t
o get NRL over
ahhh.. my maths is ok i think,
here just prior to the last round of the NRL , the gap between the codes was 8.9 million according to wookie to the AFL
the NRLs final round put it up to 70.2 million. so the gap was 5.5 million going into week one of the finals

just a tad , no question this contributed about 500K to the AFLs ratings from Vic over the 4 games
Similarly , QLDs NRL teams horror season was quite detrimental to the NRL's
