I thought it'd be counted through fox, those would be interesting.
I watch all non-fta games on Kayo, it seems pretty common amongst mates.

I assume it's the same up there?

Never realised quite how much hate there was for AFL from our Northern friends.

What Rd last year did the AFl start the big slide with ratings.
& there's a few quotes in there that show how well RL is doing on Fox & streaming.

In another crowded weekend of sport, the first round of A-league finals failed to generate much hype. The AFL had its lowest tv viewership for the season, and the NRL their second lowest.

On the other hand, Supercar racing under lights had a good result for its Friday night racing on Foxtel - rating 131,000 - and this may have slightly impacted the results from other sports.

Friday nights AFL game between Port Adelaide and Collingwood was the most watched game on free to air television with 739,000 viewers – narrowly beating Thursday nights NRL match between South Sydney and Brisbane which reeled in 710,000.

Friday nights NRL game between the Sharks/Storm takes home the chocolates for highest rating Foxtel game of the weekend with 268,000 viewers, as Foxtel ratings continue to be dominated by the NRL – on average 30% higher than AFL fox games.

Likewise, the NRL dominates streaming on Fox with 5 NRL matches making into the Oztam top 10 for the week, while the AFL missed out. We should note that this doesn’t include Kayo or Telstra apps.

Australian Football

In Round 7, the AFL had its lowest viewing week of the year with 3.7 million viewers switching on – the first time this year that the total viewers have dipped below 4 million for the round.
Seven released a video on Twitter earlier in the week where Head of Network Sport, Saul Shtein, stated that total season ratings were up 16% year on year.

With Thursday nights finished for a few weeks, Friday nights Collingwood v Port Adelaide game was the biggest draw with 957,000 viewers watching across the Seven Network and Foxtel.

On Free to air television, the Friday night Pies/Power clash was by far the biggest draw with 739,000 turning their attention to Seven, 7mate and regional affiliates, while Sundays Geelong v Essendon clash saw the highest Melbourne audience for a Sunday game this season as 281,000 took in the game from the comfort of their own homes.

On Foxtel, Friday night also reigned supreme with 218,000 watching Fox Footy, while the Giants/Saints game managed the lowest Foxtel rating this season (although not a record), as only 50,000 people made the choice to switch over to Fox Sports 3.

AFL fox ratings are up 7% on last year, but remain down 7% on the 2017 mark, so plenty of improvement is needed to make up the lost ground last year.

The AFL failed to make an impact on OzTAMs VPM charts this week.

In state football, the VFL attracted 49,000 on Sunday, while Saturdays SANFL and WAFL were watched by 28,000 and 21,000 each in their respective state capitals.
There's no doubt the NRL is rating far better than the AFL on Foxtel. In previous years the AFL consistently rated higher on foxtel for Friday nights, but this trend seems to have reversed this year.

Either many AFL fans have dropped fox for Kayo (like me) or they've dropped fox entirely
Why? the AFL number is up slightly up.

Going by the League Unlimited site it sounds pretty familiar.

Every city rates highest on Thursday and Friday nights, including the NRL. Yet Perth somehow rate far lower on those nights? Any idea why? 7mate

Sydney , Brisbane or any team will rate higher when there team plays - get a new EXCUSE!
Adelaide rate really well on Thursday and Friday nights when an Adelaide team arent playing. It's the best rating times, except for Perth....
They rate about 1/3 better when an Adelaide team plays on either of those nights [-(

Of course, but Adelaide also rate far better than Perth when both neither have a local team playing.

THURSDAY NIGHT NRL LIVE Nine 318,000 186,000 0 132,000 0 0

Another perfect example dispelling the excuse that the AFL has a FTA advantage because the NRL doesnt target home markets with local teams. Brisbane ratings last night were no higher than any game involving a non-QLD club. Therefore showing the Titans every week into Brisbane wouldnt result in a meaningful increase in ratings.

Furthermore, an AFL show ABOUT AFL rated far more than the actual NRL game on FTA metro
12 THE FRONT BAR Seven Network 462,000 17,000 308,000 9,000 58,000 70,000

7AFL Kicking Goals in 2019

#1 Winter Sport scores 16% YoY audience growth, huge reach & demo shares

The 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season is kicking massive goals for Seven and its commercial partners, demonstrating the power of Australia’s number-one winter sport.

After seven rounds, the 2019 AFL Season has grown its audience by 16% compared to the same time last year, and in the process has reached almost 11 million Australians - well over 40% of Australia’s population.

This explosive growth in year-on-year AFL viewership reached a height across round seven, the most recent completed round of the 2019 season, with 37% more people tuning in to Seven’s coverage of the AFL compared to the same round in 2018.

Seven’s AFL broadcasts are ratings juggernauts, securing enormous commercial broadcast television audience shares of 48.8% on Friday nights, 51.5% on Saturday nights, and 51.5% on Sunday nights.

The key demographic of males aged 16 to 54 years old is tuning into Seven’s coverage of the AFL in droves, with Sunday matches seeing 70% of M16-54 commercial free to air television viewers watching Seven’s coverage in Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as 63% in Perth. Friday nights see 58% of this same demographic watching Seven’s coverage in Melbourne, and 67% in Adelaide.

The success of the 2019 AFL Season hasn’t been confined to the field, with The Front Bar going from strength to strength on the screens of Seven. Armchair Experts, which returned for a second season on 7plus and Twitter after reaching 1.5 million viewers in 2018, is engaging new audiences and has this year secured new commercial partnerships, including with PointsBet.

Pat Moloughney, Director – Network Sport Sales, said: “We couldn’t be happier with how the 2019 AFL Premiership Season has kicked off, and we know our commercial partners are just as happy. This massive year-on-year growth shows just how much Australians loved footy and how important it is for brands.

“Our partners are reaching more of the people they want to reach, delivering them a better return on their investment and confirming that Seven’s AFL coverage is the best place to reach the key audiences that they are targeting.

“And of course, the action continues off the field with The Front Bar, which has cemented itself as the number-one footy show on television, and with Armchair Experts, which brings analysis and commentary to a new audience, providing new opportunities for our partners. We can’t wait to see what the rest of this season brings.”

Seven’s coverage of the 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season continues tonight with the Sydney Swans facing off against the Essendon Bombers, at 7.30 pm on 7 and 7mate.

End.
