Got any examples of this overnight change? Should be easy to demonstrate if you know the exact date.

a lot more sydneysiders are now watching their NRL on foxtel & kayo .. sick & tired of ch9 coverage

of the 2 FTA games 2.4 million veiwers this round , around half would have been in sydney
thats approx 600K a game
not a huge difference to 10 years ago , the interest is still there.
Wouldn't regionals have also decreased on fta and increased on kayo and fox?

your heartland states may have a few more people but, as ratings in Sydney and Brisbane show, the percentage of those people who consistently follow NRL is lower than what the AFL have in our states.

And your 'theory/feeble excuse' about regional ratings and WIN will be tested come July. But you still fail to understand that the metro ratings on 9 have also declined since NRL was last shown on WIN, so I think you'll be disappointed.

I see Win tv and C9 are set to reunite, we will see then, for the first time in 2021, just how farked up your logic is LOL.

As for viewers, you seem to forget that we have almost 1/3 more viewers on PTV,
How is my logic flawed?

Yes, more NRL fans have STV. Hardly surprising given how poorly some clubs get treated by FTA

NRL went to Southern Cross from WIN in July 2016. Where's the big drop off?

Mediaweek Editor James Manning

stated with WIN going back with Channel 9
this will help NRL figures and make the NRL happy.

as they are very strong in regional areas and new programs will have a knock on effect into the NRL.

Can anyone explain why the NRL would rate lower on Southern Cross than Win?

Win is a bigger company than southern cross and is bigger in the regional areas
especially in NSW, it also has strong news to the regions.

I would suspect it would rate higher on WIN by how much i dont know.

isnt that like saying the NRL will rate lower on ch10 (if they win the rights) because ch9 is a bigger company and rate more overall than ch10?

Because WIN reaches more households than SC.

Are you suggesting parts of regional Australia do not get SC, nor NRL on another FTA network?

ALSO, is the AFL shown to regional audiences through SC?

The AFL Get Prime in my area. I doubt Southern Cross showing both.

"Metro viewing rose 3.14% to an average of 263,000, while regional viewing dropped 3.79% over the same period. The ratio of regional to metro viewers dropped 9% in 2020 – regional viewers now represent 31% of the AFL audience."

well no, true that different networks can help produce bigger ratings for a code,
though WIN just have a bigger representation in NSW and would have knock on effects with its local bulletins
in promoting the NRL Better.

for example the South Coast of NSW which represents the Wollongong area
has an NRL team and a strong WIN Brand in the region
with owner being 50% share owner of the St George team.

That shouldn't matter should it as rating are inferential statistics - that is the infer to the population. If it were a smaller area (total population) then that would explain it - with WIN having a larger "pool" - thus 1 person watching out of 10 people surveyed would mean 10 people in a population of 100 but 100 people in a population of 1000...... if my maths is right :)
