Problem is you rob peter to pay Paul. Improve FTA and people won't see the value in pay TV, so subs and ratings will drop.

Fox only have a handful of exclusive AFL games, and FTA coverage is decent, so pay TV subs and ratings are lower as a result
What???? Pal, peter and paul don't matter. The total of the combined broadcast modes is what matters. At this point in time RL is the winner largely due to streaming.

Whatever the split is each governing body needs to monetise the best way they can. I suspect Peter The Great may have under sold Fox but we don't actually know the numbers so it's hard to say. The NRL's next FTA deal is the real test. Stay tuned.
Lol Ive been away for a few days but nothing changed, your making just as many BS excuses as ever.

People get fox and streaming subscriptions because they want to watch more matches and want to have a greater choice in what matches they watch. Fewer people(many fewer) people are prepared to pay $25 a month ($200 a year) for what is basically shiet. AFL have 9 PTV games a week! Fred was only saying the other day , That he wanted to watch a match but couldn't. The only game he could watch in his part of the country was the Suns. Saturdays and Sundays there a numerous games you can watch, but only if you have PTV
How is it an excuse? wookies figures show NRL fta ratings are dropping but being accounted for be streaming and paytv.

We hear how bad ch9 cover NRL by NRL fans all the time. AFL fans don't tend to say this about children. What's more, most afl fans in states bar vic get to see their club on FTA. Even more, fox have barely any exclusive games. All makes for lower paytv ratings in afl markets

The excuse part has little to do with FTA

Its this bit.

The AFL have just as many games on PTV, just not as many people prepared to pay money to watch it!

Which is basically what I said. More AFL fans find the value of fox or kayo less appealing than NRL fans. To claim its the sport is ridiculous given we more than make up for it in FTA viewers. If it was an unappealing sport we wouldn't get high FTA ratings, far bigger crowds, and far more members

How does free and little else to do relate?

Are you suggesting FTA ratings are less important because they're free?

Note this uses the season averages for Foxtel group as of NRL Magic Round (Round 10)

Some data had to be estimated - mostly AFL saturday afternoons and the odd regional for both codes.
Preseason and AFLW added later.
9NOW impossible to properly quantify over the season, data very sporadic, so not included.

AFL Ratings per round - 4.55m @ 539k per match ave
NRL Ratings per round - 4.41m @ 563k per match ave
OK, I've taken a closer look at these numbers in my lockdown boredom!!!

Whatever way you crunch it RL is the most watched sport in the land and will be at seasons end.

Wookies magnificent graph shows aggregates of AFL 72.814M over 135 games. RL 76.628M over 127 games. RL is leading by nearly 4M despite having played 8 less games. Wowsers!!!!! A great result for the Greatest Game of All.

Now to placate my dear AFL friends here: if you take out the Origin numbers, as they are wont to do, the NRL season is behind in aggregate but still in front on average due to playing less games thus far. However the NRL has an extra round and will make that number up by seasons end.

Now to placate the sensible as always RL folk here: The home ratings of one our teams is not in this graph. If the NZ Warriors home numbers were added it would mean many millions more to our total. In effect we count home ratings for 7.5 games V 9. Quite a disadvantage I would say.

However those numbers are not in Wookies graph and I do not propose we use them. Just as I trust my good AFL friends here will not use spurious......umm........things.......to muddy the waters lololololol.

So to summarise: Whatever way ya cut it RL is the winner!!!!!!

Have a great day all!!! I've got to get back to completing my 'spot the difference' puzzle and learning how to juggle eggs!!!! Ain't lockdown grand!!!

AFLW and the preseasons of both comps will be added to this. IF we had data for NZ or any other market that would be there too. Its that simple.
No worries Wookie. I was just pointing out the fact about Warriors home ratings to show both codes have their pluses and minuses in the ratings game.

Well ya see Frederico 'ol son.........if you look at the title of this thread it says "Football TV ratings". So amazingly we're talking "Football TV ratings" here pal. Incredible isn't it lololololol!!!!!!!!

As far as the other metics go......great!!!!!! But this is about which sport is the most watched in Australia. You can throw in crowds if ya want. RL still wins.

Hope this helps Fred. And go well!!!!!

Fred 4 million isn't exactly close, and with Gil Not expecting on getting the AFL back into the black for 5years-we might soon have a new leader in that department as well.
