SEVEN’S AFL: THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Seven Network 582,000 31,000 297,000 107,000 75,000 71,000

107k watched the lions on TV in Brisbane, and 29k were at the ground on a Thursday night. That's a heck of a lot of Victorian expats hey Dave?

That's lie the storm getting FTA ratings of 250k in Melbourne and a crowd of 70k.

Ithink they 'll managed that once again on Sunday night

You think the AFL will manage it again on Sunday night in Brisbane ??? What a weird prediction! Up against the SoO. I don't think so .

Seven’s AFL scores big in Brisbane

Highest AFL non-finals audience in more than 10 years

The biggest Brisbane AFL audience for a regular season match since 2010 tuned into the Seven Network last night, with 107,000 local fans cheering the Lions on as they romped to a 44-point win over Geelong at the Gabba.

It was the largest AFL audience in Brisbane for a home and away fixture since Brisbane v Carlton in 2010, and the first time in more than a decade that Brisbane’s average audience topped 100,000.

Brisbane’s average AFL audience in 2021 is up 38% on 2019, the biggest growth of any market on Seven.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: "Last night was an incredible result and again shows that AFL footy continues to go from strength to strength in Queensland.

“It’s a continuation of the remarkable support Brisbane fans showed the AFL during the 2020 season and underlines just how strong the connection is between Queensland and Australian footy.”

Last night’s broadcast reached 1.83 million people across the country, averaging 781,000 viewers nationally and 582,000 in the capital cities. It was #1 in its timeslot in 25 to 54s and total people.
Well done to the Lions. They have finally got back to where they were 10 long years ago!!!!!! Of course it's on the back of the Bronco's imploding and no RL broadcast last night.

The Lions have a long history of fleeting success followed by long dives into obscurity!! Let's see where this latest iteration takes them. I suspect the cycle of boom and bust will continue!!!

I don’t think anyone is saying AFL is king in Brisbane. I think it is just acknowledging the increase in figures and a decent ratings for the game. 110000 is nothing to be sneezed at but the true picture will be when such figures are able to be sustained. All the factors mentioned are valid but we cannot deny that 110000 people choose to watch AFL football Thursday night in a market where it is second fiddle (sons would say third) to NRL and RL in general.

230k is not an uncommon TV audience for the Nrl in Sydney. That's 1 in 22. Some perspective Dave

The lions are 3rd  The storm are first yet struggle to get 50k on FTA despite Melbourne having 2.5 times Brisbane's population, plus another AFL club 1hr down the road.

The lions getting 107k for a home and away game is like the storm getting 300k in Melbourne.

Furthermore, the NRL has had a number of games rate around 100k in Brisbane. So can we assume the lions are more popular in Brisbane than NRL games involving NRL teams other than the Broncos? :D:

Perspective indeed
