AFL indigenous player numbers falling, even after already being less than the NRL.

Post by GlobalRugbyLeague »

The NRL currently has a higher percentage of indigenous players compared to the AFL, with 12% of NRL players identifying as indigenous, compared to 9% in the AFL.

This information is based on data from NITV, which is an Australian Indigenous television channel. The disparity in indigenous representation between the two codes can be attributed to various factors, including historical and cultural connections to rugby league in Indigenous communities, as well as initiatives and programs implemented by the NRL to support Indigenous participation in the sport.

The AFL is seriously concerned about an alarming drop-off in First Nations footballers at the top level, in the talent pathways, and among coaches.

In a lengthy meeting with list bosses at Marvel Stadium on Thursday, league officials showed data which demonstrated a recent downward trend in representation for Indigenous players at all levels.

Even in states such as Western Australia, which has a greater proportion of First Nations citizens, the trend is downwards for Indigenous players getting drafted.

the stumbles & derps are mindful of the apparent racist under tones .... well they're hardly under , they're quite over in fact
coming from their coaches players , club officials & fans

well :-k
all of them actually 8-[

so they're now engineering their sport to have less first nations players so there are less racist incidents in the sport that harm the code
in doing this they are actually being even more racist then usual     :(/ :(/
This clown show continues to bring the LOL's

The NRL is now leading the nation ( like it is in pretty much everything these days ) in promoting the education of & relationship between indigenous & non indigenous Australians & respect for this ancient culture

Yes they definitely can and will.

You are inferring that the “Indigenous” code, means the Australian First Peoples. It does not and never has.
It actually means, and has since first used, “starting, produced, growing, living, or occurring natively or naturally in a particular region or environment.”

And that’s what happened, started here, grew here, occurs here and thats that.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.
