Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

As mentioned in my post RD , I can see what your saying re : having had higher averages in past (could you post these by the way for swans each year they have been in Sydney) and there may be some merit when looked at in isolation . However how much have those averages dropped ? We know there is alw...

Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

Again though, re crowd numbers ... I think if you turn around and use crowd figures to support a code found well against another code it makes it difficult to then say crowd numbers are irrelevant when commenting on the swans crowds when we already agree they are not expected to have same support as...

Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

True re soccer ... I think I was meaning within western Sydney ... A small geographical area where soccer had a lot if support .

Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

Yeah, I would agree the swans will still need to consolidate their presence and growth to date. I probably disagree re crowds going backwards based on averages given the variables you yourself list as impacting crowds although go agree re tv ratings however as you mention I can't be expected that th...

Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

You could however possibly class the wonders as successful on your definition based on their impact in western Sydney ... They seem to be on par with Nrl.... So it can happen but they had a good base to begin with . I don't think the afl will ever be on par with nrl re: being embraced by city at sam...

Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

RD ... I think it depends on your definition of success. The measures you mention as success would see it having the same profile as NRL ... I don't think anyone expects the afl to be on par or near par with NRL .. If this is your definition of success than I don't think the afl or swans would ever ...

Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

So what does constitute reasonable success for the afl in Sydney. Crowds are over 20000 consistently for most games, membership at all time highs? One kpi would be increased media coverage of afl in general , not just Sydney teams and scandals . That could be better. But certainly swans have carved ...

Re: Dwindling NRL Crowds - a major concern

Okay let's settle this easy . What was the a average nrl crowd in Sydney last year and what was the average swans crowd . Can we also have the average giants crowd and the combined average if both clubs in Sydney . If suspect the average swans crowd to be larger than the giants crowd given new team ...

Re: less then 20,000 2 weeks in a row

KE .. I see so in Sydney afl crowds are declining compared to last year ? That's fair enough . I assume you mean swans games only which is fair enough too. I remember Sydney games getting under 10 000 regularly when they started and couldn't win. So can we look at each average for all seasons for sw...

Re: SCG nearing a sellout

Why do you keep arguing with rd?? He throws bait and you all bite! You know the facts , we all do, yet when he puts up erroneous figures and arguments you all bite. The afl could get 100 000 at every game and the nrl 10 000 and he is still going to say the nrl gets better crowds .... In fact that's ...

Re: less then 20,000 2 weeks in a row

RD I get a little confused ... How come you bag out the afl for poor crowd numbers and say how well the Nrl is going when the afl has better, way better, numbers than the Nrl? Afl even has better average attendances than nrl? Nrl is the main game in Sydney no one doubts that and if they do they are ...

Re: Fight Club - Football Crowds Thread

I think 20 000 for afl in Sydney is pretty good , particularly given the variables you mentioned previously RD such as rain , quality of opposition . I would think 20 000 in a city where RL dominates is pretty good?? Surely?? Particularly given that the culture of the city is not to go to games in l...
