Re: Streaming companies want to broadcast AFL
Pal, the Balmain leagues club hardly contributed anything to Wests Tigers before it was closed due to insolvency. The Ashfield Leagues club has always been the main contributor outside football related income. This is why the Balmain side of the merger has virtually no say on the board (2 out of 9 ...

Re: Rank the Codes in QLD
LOL! I think actually a bigger slab will be barracking for the Swans tomorrow night - because it's against Collingwood!

Re: Streaming companies want to broadcast AFL
Then how come Balmain still had a leagues club a decade after the RL club merged with Western Suburbs hmm? I stand by what I said. And which Sydney based club has only been around for three years? Pal, the Balmain leagues club hardly contributed anything to Wests Tigers before it was closed due to ...

Re: IF
For the AFL it has to be a smallish number to allow for clubs to play each other twice. Maximum 14 clubs, 26 rounds with a final six. The fourteen clubs would be. West Coast Fremantle Adelaide Port Adelaide Tasmania Canberra Sydney Brisbane Carlton Collingwood Essendon Melbourne Geelong Richmond The...

Re: Streaming companies want to broadcast AFL
I actually think it's more likely they'll fall back to 16 clubs to be honest. The NRL has the same problem in Sydney that the AFL has in Melbourne. Too many clubs. In both cases its utterly bullshit. Not every club has to be big, someone has to come last. No NRL clubs are in financial trouble, and ...

Re: Streaming companies want to broadcast AFL
Finances aren't the issue. Membership is the issue. If clubs aren't pulling crowds that's a problem. Leagues clubs are actually irrelevant - heck Balmain Leagues is still doing okay. Newtown still have a leagues club too (I didn't check Wollongong or North Sydney). The finances of the Melbourne AFL ...

Re: Streaming companies want to broadcast AFL
Somehow I don't think they'll have that 18th club by then. how long do you think the NRL will have a BYE for lol fans clubs and networks already do not like it, and DOLPHINS have not even played a game yet. I actually think it's more likely they'll fall back to 16 clubs to be honest. The NRL has th...

Re: Streaming companies want to broadcast AFL
That's a big call, Leeroy, given that the AFL have the extra game to play with.

Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings
Who would turn over at 60 to 0 , or whatever the score was at that time. Though I do suppose the Victerps understanding of remote control use may have been an issue C9 rarely punt Australia's most popular sport to the secondary channels. HA! During the home and away season the NRL is ALWAY...

Re: Streaming companies want to broadcast AFL
Has anyone read the article by Phil Gould claiming that his employers (C9) took no part in the bidding. The article was behind a paywall so I've only read the headlines. Has Gil been caught out again? No. My bet is that Sydney 9 execs didn't know what Melbourne 9 execs were up to. Melbourne execs k...

Re: Stockmarket
Aha - here's the problem. What I was talking about actually was not about the global price of oil. It's actually irrelevant. Australia's petrol pries have not moved with the global oil price - not at all. When they fell at one time our local bowser prices went in the opposite direction. And no - I w...

Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings
There is a message to be heard from the ratings on the move to the secondary channel because of the coverage of the passing of the Queen. How many would make the move? What percentage? It should have a big say going forward. The unwillingness of fans to go to the secondary channel would have a clea...

Re: Stockmarket
I don't have time at present (lots going on my household over the next few days) but seeing that it appears American I wouldn't read much into it. America didn't have the sorts of lockdowns we had certainly in Victoria, and I never saw prices come down here, because people weren't just not travellin...
