Re: How does it feel knowing Australians embraced Rugby League yet English rejected AFL?

I was expecting a retort of something like “and that’s why he wrote science fiction”

Re: How does it feel knowing Australians embraced Rugby League yet English rejected AFL?

Found this whilst on the search for something else thanks to the Australian Football site. More for interest than debate. During a visit to Australia in 1920, famed writer Arthur Conan Doyle and his wife attended the 1920 VFL Grand final and liked what they saw, as the Register reported. Sir Arthur ...

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all

Conveince has nothing to do with it, just the facts, and my posts in this forum are about crowds. Appears to me there are enough comments and intense discussion on TV ratings without me contributing. And there is much disagreement these days (and here) about what counts and what doesn’t and until de...

12,269 is better than I expected or estimated, must have been a few in the catering tents.

Re: Fight Club - Football Crowds

Major League Baseball in 2018 had a total attendance of 69,625,240 Which is a lot, however they also have 30 teams that play a total of 2,430 games. The average attendance was 28,830. I have attended a couple of baseball games including one that some media said was the best of the decade. Ortiz deci...

Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia

I am serious, perhaps they should trial 4 quarters in the SOO series when, as it appears they might, sell the series as a seperate package. More breaks, more advertising, more money. I would think it is a great oppurunity to increase the value of the most popular and valuable part of RL and could ea...

Re: Fight Club - Football Crowds

The college football system is quite phenomenal considering it is meant to be an amateur sport. They currently hold the top 10 average attendance for football games. Team————-League———-Country———-Code————Year——-HOME GAMES——-Average Michigan——-Big 10————- USA————College 1A—-17/18—————7———————110,737 ...

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all

There is no doubting the popularity of SOO in the non Rugby League states, and the Perth attendance was fantastic and now holds, not by much, the Optus record. I think there are several reasons for it, including some great promotional work by the NRL and they are marketed as events more than a game ...

Re: Is AFL even a real football code.

I think that contested possessions in the Australian Rules may have led to the perception of “fumble ball”. And there are far more player on player contests in Rules than league. It would be interesting to see how many average possessions there are in the average game for the 3 holding the ball code...

Re: Fight Club - Football Crowds

But if it impacts so much on the regular season, which imo, is what the game is really all about, is it a positive for the NRL overall. Its a bit like “don’t worry about the other 192 games a year we have 3 great games” And if, as it has been discussed, the NRL separates the “packages” for the next ...

Re: Is AFL even a real football code.

Average kick per game is running about 19 for the NRL with the majority not being in general play, as in kick off, penalties and conversions. Average in AFL is about 410, the large majority being in general play. Isn’t football about the ball and the foot, you know, kicking? Maybe one should be call...
