Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF
Think that is a wise way to go. Here’s a thought - do you think SoO, bring the behemoth it is, could go to 5 games?? Unlikely I know but always like to think broad and outside the box. Still think nrl should go to quarters to for extra adds. And - for both codes - a best of three grand final - think ...

Re: Sydney AFL shunned - no one cares!!!!
And being a Friday night - isn't it showed live into Sydney anyway?
Usually the Sydney derby is Saturday afternoon or Saturday night with no live free to air coverage in NSW due to the exclusive Super Saturday Fox Footy tv deal.
Year - but - the AFL have stated it isn’t about rating but ...

True - but grass roots isn't matching it would seem - and still - surprised it was 5 local players on their list to be honest.
you wonder how many were converted fans or immigrants from NZ or another control where Rugby of both versions are popular

Re: The damning truth behind the AFL's western sydney failure.
Great article in today's SMH. Ginats coach Allan Kingfield said the 'responsibility to drive participation in fumbling football in western Sydney rests with the AFL not the Ginats'.
So there ya have it sports fans. A team afforded hundreds of millions of dollars and planted in western Sydney ...

Re: Five homegrown players in 26 years: NRL’s uphill battle in Victoria laid bare
Gees, 5 players in 26 years 8-[
Admittedly, that report was two year ago. Surely there are many more Victorians are now playing Rugby League right?
Melbourne Storm are such a powerhouse on the field, virtually always in the finals and Grand Finals. It must surely translate into huge Rugby ...

Re: The damning truth behind the AFL's western sydney failure.
yep more ingrained and deeper grassroots too.
16 years more older than the Storm as well..
like ive said before Storm have done more for the game in Victoria since 2024 (in 2 years)
than they did 25 years prior>> its amazing really.
True - the NRL did a disastrous job to start with - was ...

Re: NRL in race to reimagine Magic Round as rival AFL event doubles profits
total different set up
NRL sell out the 3 days total 150k fans
AFL get like 250k fans spread out over an extra day and alot more venues.
MAGIC ROUND is bigger than ever has been..
270,000 fans reported for the AFL Gather Round last weekend, that included official NRL observers. I think ...

Re: Five homegrown players in 26 years: NRL’s uphill battle in Victoria laid bare
RL presence seems to have improved - but marginally - comparison wise - Aussie Rules in Sydney is so much bigger.

Re: Sydney AFL shunned - no one cares!!!!
Sydney vs Greater Western Sydney is live Friday night on Chsnnel 7 and Fox Footy across NSW/ACT.
Similar to the South Australian, Western Australian and Queensland local derbies that are only ever broadcast live in their respective states.
Whilst it would be nice to have the national broadcast ...

Re: Sydney AFL shunned - no one cares!!!!
Weird. The one thing the Swans do well is crowds. They're probably right about the ratings though. The two Sydney teams ain't gonna rate no matter when they play.
pretty much, the AFL would be thinking 40k attendance and a slightly better tv figure for the night than the usual (into ...

Re: The damning truth behind the AFL's western sydney failure.
Wrong you loser.. :[]
Swans are bigger success than the Storm (period)
They are both successful expansions
Gosh you are one mental case...
I do think there is a case that the Swans are likely more ingrained now into the Sydney culture than the Storm are - but Storm have made some ...

Re: The damning truth behind the AFL's western sydney failure.
different times.
Swans did fail and they were bought out...and propped up numerous times..
it took to 1996 (the big man TONY LOCKETT to kick them in to the GF) to set them on a path..to Glory
in being a BIG TEAM
Mind you the Super League war and the ARL losing teams right where the Swans ...

Re: NRL in race to reimagine Magic Round as rival AFL event doubles profits
I have always failed to see why it is an issue if one code or business is doing something why it is a bad thing to copy it - I think it would be neglectful not to. AFL copied Magic round concept - a great idea. The AFL is doing it slightly differently - and if this benefits the concept of Magic ...

Re: NRL EXPANSION
Seems the NRL is really worried about the AFL in Queensland.
The NRL’s former chief strategist has urged Peter V’landys and the ARLC to launch a 20th team in Brisbane’s west to tackle the AFL’s $1 billion invasion
“We’re giving up our heartland to the AFL.”
