Re: Rugby union is rising in the US. That’s bad news for the NRL

I think Union is closer to Aussie rules in that it is flowing game - that’s my opinion anyway and can watch Union more so than nrl as find it more interesting and something going on all the time - ball is always in play and none of the 6 tackles thing - so as an Aussie rules fan Union appeals more ...

Re: Fox Sports dumps free to air NRL Las Vegas coverage

Watched an interesting show in Vegas -basically saying yes, it is empty - but they don't care (it is down on tourism numbers quite a bit). The gist was that the hotels on the strip are stinging people for every little thing - things mentions was $70 if you open your bar fridge - regardless of having ...

Re: AFL & NRL Membership Tally - 2026

I think the distinction is that if you buy a membership to an AFL club it is because you support the club, want to go to a few games - whereas joining a Leagues club could be for multiple reasons and nothing to do with supporting the club. That's my thinking anyway looking from the outside. I'm sure ...

Re: State of Origin

Yeah - I like the idea of a carnival type situation - all states could field a team - you could have 2 levels - with relegation and promotion for the following year maybe. Tassie, Northern Territory, NSW, QLD in one league - and Vic, SA, and WA in another - don't think you'd have enough for Canberra ...

Re: AFL & NRL Footy TV Ratings - 2026

Yeah - have to agree with Terry and Leroy here. I think it can work as an exhibition match though for the AFL as that's all they have. Think pre season it right spot - but injuries piss me off.

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

there is no evidence that the AFL took less to have games played in northern markets on main channel.
in fact tv deals sky rocked..
it was a deal what the AFL wanted and the network that bought the deal had to do it within its means.

Why would you pay top dollar for something and show it ...

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

AFL negotiated, and take/took less to have local teams in northern states broadcast live but I believe this allowed for secondary channel to be used - there has been an increasing number of games being shown live on the main channel - particularly last year, up here in South East Queensland I ...

Re: State of Origin

Watched a little when got home - the standard was pretty good I thought - good seeing Gawn, to Daicis, Dangerfield etc. But was an exhibition match that’s all - no real passion or strong vibes re: win at all costs type thing.

This is a pretty silly thing to say IMO. You could clearly hear the ...

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

I always thought AFL got much more than NRL for TV rights historically? Do we have the figures as curious.

Re: State of Origin

I watched Origin at a Sydney Swans pub with mates. Pub was packed with Swans regulars who go meet there to watch away games, finals and grand finals. Was a great atmosphere in the pub with virtually everyone cheering loudly for WA and in particular whenever Chad Warner got the ball. I thought the ...

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

Same as AFL taking less to ensure certain games were played live into Northern States on 7s main channel. The AFL also have the evening grand final up their sleeves which 7 would pay overs for I think. Agree, with V'Landys - you have to look after the fans too - too many paywalls and your base drops.

Wasn’t the contra amount defined when the deal went down?
