Re: RUGBY LEAGUE EXPANDING THE GAME

What happens if the English RL does get massive -which it seems to have a base - and starts generating massive revenue - like 100 times it is now - gets up to somewhere near soccer? Not saying it will, but just lets say it gets 10 times bigger - ratings go through roof on a weekly basis, media goes ...

Re: Length of games

Some rule changes with ain to shorten length of each game. Some are minor - but the last touch out of bounds rule I am not sure about. Anyway - the one thing they never mention -for obvious reasons, but is the biggest contributor to game length - is the 30 seconds they take between goals to ...

Wild Card??

So - it is official. A wild card round the week before finals proper (?) - 7 v 10 and 8 v 9 I believe - the two winners go through to the finals. I'm not opposed to the idea per se - but where will this stop?

I have always had it that the team that finishes on top is the best team for the year. I ...

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

TV DEALS >>>

NRL 2023 to 2027 is not comparable to the AFL's tv Deal which is 2025 to 2031

NRL is looking at signing 2028 to 2032

That is Right and the up coming deal will reflect this on the TV deal > not a deal signed in COVID

and the NRL should not be that far ahead ????

HOW can ...

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

All my reading is that the nrl are aiming to get closer to the AFL deal - which, I think, with the ratings, the women’s comp going well, soo etc. they should be getting more - particularly adding in inflation. But I guess there’s a lot I don’t know about how they value these things.

I agree with a lot here - I think vlandy's has done a great job. Gil was a disaster I think and not up top it and I don't think the new guy is any better to be honest. AFL resting on their Number 1 status may just see them lose that position. All credit to the NRL and the board and V'landy.

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

The arguements I hear against an AFL team in Newcastle are the very reasons why I think there should be one there.

The Giants was a massive stuff up from the start. Agree- Canberra needs a team.

Canberra would be successful, they should be AFLs 20th team. Or even if they moved GWS to ...

Re: TV RIGHTS KICK OFF

I think a team in Newcastle should happen. Makes sense, good population, away from but close enough to Sydney , has AFL in the community already, and plenty of growth in a nrl heartland. I think you’ll see another team in Adelaide, Northern Territory will come in one form or another, and a long ...

Re: Inaugural Melbourne Storm boss Chris Johns claims AFL sabotaged the club in its formative years

From a business perspective I can understand - why prop up a competitor. Despite any of that, as he mentions, the public are not in competition and Storm have forged a great little niche. As big as the swans and AFL in Sydney, no, but a decent niche nonetheless.

The Swans have had a massive ...

So you have a few extra players in another state of one country lol..
Hardly impressive. Maybe start boasting when you can recruit players from Fiji, England, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea.

Still a sport that continuously fails to gain any traction in overseas markets

I ...

Re: Battle of Brisbane: Broncos v Lions v Dolphins

Yeah I agree - any sense of AFL taking over is overblown at best. Has it grown considerably - absolutely - but there is still daylight between the two - far less daylight nowadays but still daylight.

Let's be honest, AFL is a pretty niche sport in Queensland. The NRL has twice the amount of ...
