there are even Celebrity Poker games on TV here. the one I watched with Hank Azaria from The Simpsons was a cracker!!!!!!

John, a form of poker is played in Casinos around Australia - usually called Carribean Stud Poker. Each player draws 5 cards as does the dealer with one of the cards face up. Prior to the deal, each player must bet an ante - and after receiving their cards can decide to either fold and lose their ante, or bet double the ante to stay in the hand.
The object is to beat the bank's hand, and if you do, you will be paid depending on the hand. For example, 2 pairs may pay 2-1 plus even money on your ante, 3 of a kind may pay 3-1 and so forth. If you get a royal flush you win a jackpot (has been high as $500 000)
The catch is, that if the dealer does not get at least an ace and king, then they don't have a hand and even if you beat the bank's hand you only get paid even money on the ante. I've had 4 of a kind before and this happened and I only won $15 instead of $900.
We also have had on SBS a poker series, possibly a US produced series where the viewer can see all of the cards as they watch, but I haven't sat down to view this yet! |
