Amalgamate League and Union Says Denis Fitzgerald

Post by Beaussie »

Denis says Rugby League is lacking in the international appeal department, which is true. Rugby Union on the other hand lacks domestic appeal. Perhaps amalgamation of the two codes as Fitzgerald suggests would be for the betterment of both games. Thoughts?

The boss of the Parramatta Eels NRL league club has come out with what many will regard as a staggering remark.

He is suggesting that league amalgamates with rugby union.

Denis Fitzgerald is in Hamilton promoting Parramatta's home game in the NRL at Waikato Stadium later on this year.

The Eels CEO is always known for his thinking outside the square, and this latest idea is no exception.

He wants union and league joined for the betterment of the codes internationally.

Denis Fitzgerald says he does not have too many supporters, which is understandable.

Fitzgerald says league supporters call league the greatest game of all, but it is hard to convince others when it falls over at the international level.

He says in Australia you cannot convince other sporting fans to take to league, which is a major problem.

Goodbye AFL as No 1 code in Australia if it happens....

But I can't see it...

Too much history and too much hate...

Us Rugby League types have hated yawnion for a century longer than we have AFL...

Nothing wrong with good old fashioned hatred though!!!
