Channel 7 drops 2 AFL shows!!!! Has massive debt problems!!!

In incredibly sad news the AFL broadcaster Channel 7 is in massive financial difficulties. The network has a $96M market value but is saddled with a stupendous $570M debt!!!!!! Wowsers!!!!! The sinking broadcaster owes money to 8.........yep 8 banks!!! Including 4 in Australia, 2 in China and 1 each in Singapore and Japan!!

These banks are thought to be about to call in the debt!!! Clearly the joint is close to collapsing. Which leads us to the sad news that the AFL could be collateral damage in this financial carnage. Poor 'ol Gilty is currently trying to re-structure the leagues broadcast deal with Ch7 after the C-19 catastrophe. Good luck with that Gilty!!!! Big reductions coming his way!!!! Or if Ch7 goes belly up that $600M line of credit is gonna look like chicken feed.

In further bad news & indications of how dire things are Ch7 has cut two AFL shows just before the season re-starts - Gameday & Talking Footy - to save money!!!! Talk about desperate!!!!

It seems Ch 7 are on the brink! And the unfortunate thing is the AFL may go down with 'em!!! Let's hope and pray Ch7 has a PVL to save 'em!!! Good luck and gods speed to both organisations. They need all the help they can get!!!

while all looks pretty bad at Ch7 i still think they will come up with the cash to satisfy the AFL.

be interesting to what kind of discount it is between the networks ch9 and ch7

No doubt they'll still go ok but it sure does give 7 incentive and reason to drive down the price. And in these tough times there is still a chance 7 goes belly up. Which puts Gilty in a precarious spot. He can accept less to ensure 7 stays solvent or go hard and risk them going them into administration. Neither party is in a strong position. Sad as it is lololololo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh dear Terry lol

AFL Gameday and Talking Footy are only temporarily suspended whilst there is no footy.

Maybe that future fund will come in handy. I am assuming they dipped into it with this thing ?

i would assume they have, they would go for that first before the $600 million Line of credit..
NRL would be zapping everything they had in the kitty too..

In further bad news it's thought Gilty won't be able to make a deal with broadcasters before the mess resumes next week. This is in contrast to the NRL's Peter The Great who stitched up 9 and Fox while juggling 5 balls, drinking a schooner and doing a pan-hellenic jig!!!!

It's terribly bad luck the AFL finds itself attached to the biggest basket case in Australian media - Ch 7 - at this catastrophic time!!!! The broadcaster is a shandy off being insolvent. Not a good time for Gilty and the boyo's at fumblehouse to play hard ball. Me thinks they'll have to bend over and take what they get. Ouch!!!!!!!

Even loud mouth AFL fanboy Jeff Kennett is worried due to the debt being taken on board. Reports suggest this is the first sensible thing he has said in decades.

I suggest Gilty gets Peter The Great in to do a deal for him.I'm sure he could get the job done quicker than you can throw a banana onto an AFL ground. Get him in Gilty!!!!!!

Hmm, meanwhile...

Last Night saw a big turn around in ratings fortunes from last Thursday with Nine slipping from first to third as a one-sided NRL match failed to perform well for the network.

Over on Seven, the return of The Front Bar helped boost the network to number one while 10 saw its network share lift by almost 3 points.

Leading the entertainment shows was MasterChef up slightly on the previous week. The show outperformed the NRL this week in Sydney and Brisbane.

I think a boost in ratings was expected even if for curiosity value. Expect same for afl this week.

And Leroy .... even the afl isn’t popping up much in my feeds. I have the afl app so will have to get back onto it. Collingwood v Richmond this Thursday I think.
