I have some bad news. The cancer has spread.
There has been a worrying development in the NRlilL.
Last night I watched the game at Shart Park between the Sharks and the mighty Storm.
What I saw was more ads than I've ever seen in a game of NRlilL ever.
Add to that the slowest game play and very little actual play of the ball.
This was due to the 33 penalties being awarded and multiple shots on goal.
It felt like the was a penalty every 2min 25seconds......
But,
What this allowed was an ad.
The cancer spreads!
I believe with the new modest broadcast deal the NRlilL struck, more ads must be shown during a game.
And one of the mechanisms being employed is the penalty count.
1 penalty goal allows one ad.
Another is selling thousands of the better seats in a stadium so they can be covered in a sponsors banner.
Cop this....
"Sorry, you can't sit there, they're reserved for VIP's"
Imagine going to a game, hearing that..... Then seeing the VIP's.....
Another is the on field digital banners. Clouding the view for watchers on the box. These completely fuck the look of the game and are very easily added to the field of play. Expect many more in the future.
Another is the 4 seperate ribbon/strip ads on the sideline.
Mind you....
I still saw a bit of grass not covered, com'on NRlilL pick up your game
Add to all that the players being plastered from head to tail in billboards. To the point where it's difficult to determine the teams clearly.
There is a shit load of psychological warfare aimed at retinas of the viewers of NRlilL.
Now, being relatively strong minded imo, I've no problem peering through the mire to see the action. But I'm afraid allot of NRlilL viewers will struggle with this all out attack on their retinas. And end up buying something they don't need.
If this keeps up, I'm out.
There's nothing left worth watching.
And I feel I won't be alone.
That was the shittest game of NRlilL I've ever watched.
The AFL will be licking their chops at the converts heading their way.
Thank God for AFL.
But the one truely alarming characteristic of this type of cancer is that it doesn't like giving up ground.
Once it spreads, it's terminal.
The NRlilL get a little taste of that teat, and they're hooked.
Killing themself along the way.
RIP NRlilL!

Re: I have some bad news. The cancer has spread.
Judging by the tv ratings, Melbourne viewers tuned out of the live broadcast on Channel 9, preferring to watch it seems anything else on other channels.

So the Storm got about the same FTA ratings that the Swans get in Syd .
Yet somehow that's bad .
Strange I don't see you saying the same about the Swans .

Re: I have some bad news. The cancer has spread.
I managed to hang in till the pressers that followed the highlight package.
Yes, highlight, singular.
The only highlight they showed of the entire match was the Sharts try, that started with an error.
What were the ratings btw?

Re: I have some bad news. The cancer has spread.
Unlike this game for the Storm, Swans games are shown on the secondary channel 7mate. To get 73k on Channel 9βs main channel live and primetime with no AFL to compete against... well like I said, it bombed.

Bhaaaa
You just remember that when the SWANS BOMB this year .
I'll be reminding you
& as for the secondary channel crap .

Secondary channels have been around for more than a decade
If your sport isn't on the main then you just switch channels .
Piss poor excuse

Funny hearing this from an AFL fan when GWS rated under 20,000 last year.

Re: I have some bad news. The cancer has spread.
Ok, enough about ratings.
BOT please.
This thread is looking at the infiltration of advertising in the NRlilL.
It seems to me the NRlilL number 1 priority is now as a advert delivery service.
This is at the cost of attendees, viewing pleasure and the state of the game.
The pressure from the new modest broadcast deal is starting to show.
Now the AFL were not immune from the pressure of their eye watering broadcast deal.
We now have 2 ads post goal. (Time to get a beer)
A Toyota symbol in the goal squares. (Play is rarely there)
And a Telstra symbol on the 50m arc. (Replaced one of the painted 50m)
And the players only have a handful of relatively small pieces on them.
So comparatively the effect from advertiser's on AFL games is minimal to none.
But NRlilL games are peppered with ads, all over the side line, dead ball, in goal, in field, grand stands and the ones on the players of which there are at least 12 seperate pieces. Some almost full page spreads.
All there during play.
Where do all you leaguers stand on all this?
I personally have a deep seeded hatred of advertising. Like any effective virus, it holds no regard for its host.
It needs to be kept in check.
The Olympics for instance. Not a single piece of advertising infecting the viewing.
Absolutely magnificent!
Where to next for the NRlilL?

Re: I have some bad news. The cancer has spread.
I hear to this>>
the SHARKS V STORM WAS A SHOCKER>>
so many penalties it was quite amazing>>
To the AFL FOLK>>>
you do realize the Melbourne Storm actually never scored a TRY!
and some how still managed 73k plus fox numbers
for literally one of the worst games I have witnessed.
even the game was slamed here in NSW>
Now imagen a Swans game if they never scored a Goal lol

Re: I have some bad news. The cancer has spread.
I can't imagine what sort of fucked up logic can make 1.8 worth way more than 2.5.
I tend to take a holistic view to the worth of things.
The bigger difference here is how each has effected/infected or respective games.
What were seeing now during a game in the NRlilL is hundreds of seperate pieces of advertising.
Continually bombarding viewers retinas.
And denying attendees a stack of the better seats at stadiums.
Stealing the purity of the contest and making it look as cheap as a street sold Rolex.
I'd be very concerned where this is heading.
If the NRlilL keep bending over and allow the royal reaming from the advertiser's, there will soon be no uncovered blade of grass to be seen.
And possibly no front row seats at games.
How good will that look.....?
Slow motion suicide. IMO
