Re: 2018 - Rugby Union TV Ratings - Super Rugby etc
terrible figures coming out for Union >>
especially with no NRL OR AFL to compete with>>
this new Super 15 format has really made aussie sides even have a bigger chance of making finals
with more derby's and the Japan Sunwolves in there conference

I don't think the exact breakdown was given. But apparently without the extra European money Super Rugby would have got less than the previous deal.

I don't see how Super Rugby can ever work. The Waratahs played a South African team in the 1st round that no one in Aust. cares about and barely got 10k at the ground. Then they go overseas & disappear for 2 weeks while playing games in obscure time slots. That's no way to build any momentum.
Their only hope is an Aust/NZ only comp. Ten teams play each other twice home and away in normal time slots. The trouble with that is the broadcast money might not be there. So basically they're stuffed lolololol!!!! Which I don't feel too bad about when I see that idiot Fitzsimons repeatedly bag RL.
I get my RU hit these days by going to my local Shute Shield teams home games. I can sit at the bar & watch the game live & get the RL on the TV. Perfect!

yeah I agree, it never will, the time zone difference is just to painful.
In South Africa 12am or 2am
Argentina 8-9am
you literally here nothing of the games overseas..
be interesting to know how much they could squeeze out of broadcasters
for a AUS / NZ COMP>> even if they did add JAPAN and maybe FIJI for a 12 team comp..
it was floated that is what ARU wanted, was to split from SANSAR>>
but NZ did not want too as it gave them harder opposition and money..
for me (it could change in the future) and it would do he world for the Australian game>

Yeah the current model just doesn't work. I can see south Africa and maybe argentina leaving once the broadcasting deal ends in 2020. it will be NZ, OZ and Japan comp. The Japs are investing heavily into rugby now with the world cup next year. Thats where the majority of the money will be coming from.

There has been reports today that the Sunwolves could be pulled from Super Rugby after the next broadcast deal. Apparently the blokes that run their local clubs want 'em out.
Aus Rugby is in a massive catch 22 situation. Whichever way they go they have massive downsides and risks.
