Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
This is better nlol, you are beginning to see the light
So additionally the game of 'afl' or Australian rules fails miserably in marketing and expansion o/s because:
1. The exec staff are kinda stoopid, there's been many instances which suggest they're a higher than avg chance of being sexist and racist, and...see point 2
2. No one seems to get the fact that the actual name of the game "Australian rules" or "Australian football league (afl) is incredibly unmarkatable overseas. I mean tell me nlol, if Chinese blokes can waltzing up to you saying "hey we've got this incredible sport for you guys down in Melbourne town, we want you to make some teams there to play it" and you go "ok what's it called??" And they go "Chinese rules" and then proceed to show you video of what appears to be a large number of scantily clad Chinese men running round stooping and grabbing at each other like lost drunkards in a park.... would you go "yeah I want a bit of Chinese rules or Chinese football league x"
Be honest now nlol, like you were with leeroy

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
The one white parent rule would be very hard to enforce overseas. So maybe overseas expansion wouldn't be such a hit with the AFL
Rugby League, the dominant force in Australian sport!

Haha thanks bro.Terry wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 10:37 am"Sloppier than a drunk with his pants down".......hahahahahahahahahahahaha. That's a perfect description of the mess!!! There are NEVER straight sprints in AFL, due to the poor structure of the game. And the amount of standing around when someone takes a mark in AFL makes a complete mockery of anything high octane lol...
AFL is sloppier than a drunk with his pants down.
Which is why it is just a one nation code.
I'll add that one to my descriptors of the abomination!!!!
Whenever I watch a game of AFL you think are they taking the piss? or on the piss?.
Fumble bumble fall over, stacks on to grab the ball. Then try to bounce a ball made for rugby codes like it is a basketball lol
Like what bright spark came up with that bright idea. Is about a sensical as driving a car with square wheels.

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
I think AFL should focus on Ireland if any country. Has so many similarties to Gaelic football. An AFL exhibition match there would probably do well there too. Without a doubt they would get a much bigger turn out than China.NlolRL wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 1:17 pmwhy do you think the AFL has had little success expanding internationallyleeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 12:18 pmI think AFL followers on here are missing the point...
AFL for years have been trying to expand there game
with little to zero success..
thought they have denied that the AFL do not care about international expansion.. etc etc..
we only focus on our H&A season blah blah blah...
yet again the AFL are trying to find inroads in international markets..
China & India are such different cultures to Australia. And they are never going to compete with soccers push in these places.

yeah that is another point>>NlolRL wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 8:04 pmyeah, I'd agree with those points. Also, the field is very large compared to other sports so availability of facilities would be an issue.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 2:25 pma few points I would say so..
it is very hard to expand a game that is foreign to you..
AFL Is a game most have to grow up on, otherwise its hard to convert & make the switch.
the game why you think is structured. to many sports followers do not see it that way..
If England didnt travel the world in the 1800's, cricket and the two rugby codes, i dont think would of been as big..

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
Sports expansion is far harder than people realise. Look at RL for example. It has been adopted internationally in countries with british influence but hasnt really expanded in the country where its tje strongest. Culture is a huge part of sport and people tend to stay with the sports they have grown up with.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2018 9:58 amyeah that is another point>>NlolRL wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 8:04 pmyeah, I'd agree with those points. Yes soccer is expanding in Australia, but we have also had a large proportion of immigrants whos sporting culture is soccer. Where as immigration of AFL fans overseas is very small.
Thw other issue is how easy thw game is to arrange. Only a 10 players are need for a full game of basketball plus a small court. Where as to play aussie rules you need 36 players plus a very large arena. This will be the reason behind AFLX. Less players and a smaller arena required.
Personally i think itll flop badly

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
This quote from Gilligan gives the real reason they have gone with this freak show of a game, "there’s an opportunity here that means we can get onto different ovals in New South Wales".
Yep, as I alluded to in an earlier post this is the real game plan for this mess. They will go to their existing playing base in NSW and also Qld and double them up into X teams then take ridiculous requests to local councils to tie up rectangular grounds and make life as difficult as possible for the other codes.
The AFL really are the great wreckers of Australian sport. As Richard Hinds said recently- the ladies mess was brought forward to be a spoiler for the other womens sports.
The problem for the AFL is that the ladies fumbling has tanked and if the X launch is anything to go by it's going to be a freak show.
Interesting times coming up. I get the feeling Silly Gilly might be trying to be a bit too clever in recent times.

THE LEAGUE will use its new high-octane format, AFLX, to make a significant push into China and India in the future.
The AFL hasn't yet set a timeline for when it might attempt to introduce AFLX into the Asian market, but it is keen to get participation programs up and running in those regions.
Chinese broadcaster Guangzhou TV also aired regular AFL games during the 2017 home and away season, as well as last year's Grand Final.
Port Adelaide, in conjunction with the AFL, has also set up football programs at 15 schools in Shanghai.
India on the other hand is relatively untapped by the AFL, despite having the world's fastest growing economy.

This will get the Indians & Asians interested.

AFLX: Silver balls, 'Zooper' goals, Hong Kong?
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has also forecast a mini-tournament in Hong Kong late next year for the modified game.
We have had trouble taking our game internationally. This is not our traditional game, AFL X, but it's got all the best bits of it," McLachlan said.
It means that we could go to Hong Kong in November next year not only with two clubs, but we could take six clubs and play a mini-tournament.
"To take our game and showcase all the best bits of it, and actually not have to build infrastructure like we did in Shanghai, for example, that presents a huge opportunity.
