Soccer participation continues to dominate.

Like netball, if the people who played soccer watched it, it would rate through the roof. Even golf”s ratings have dropped over the years yet that is second on the list.

Interestingly, rugby league not in the top 10. I was not surprised that rugby union was not there though.

The question is, for me anyway, is that soccer has always had high participation rates; but how do they turn that into ratings and decent crowd figures?

Tennis, swimming, netball, basketball and golf are all sports that can be played by people aged well over rhwir 30,s. Whereas Aussie rules, RL and RU require a fairly high level of physical conditioning to participate. This certainly influences the list considerably

Its amazing how soccer continues to dominate participation rates, which I'm sure is primarily due to juniors who increasingly prefer low contact sport. When will this translate into overall popularity at professional level I wonder?

Soccer is a very high skilled sport: it will take time to get the raw numbers but as a non soccer fan I can well and truly say I am impressed by the level of skill in Australia, including the women and not just Daniel Kerr’s sister: infact, I think she was lucky to get that medal the other day!

Because, like the English, were all drunkards stuck in our ways!

Should we all give into the new feministic-fashion-dictate of the day?

Not even normal women do that!!
