lol at this thread.

the game was about 2 things -
- getting sponsorship and exposure for the Port Adelaide football club brand - which by all accounts they did.
- continuing a long term Port Adelaide strategy begun in 2012

Anyone who thinks it was about the crowds and ratings in this match is an idiot and should be treated as such.
Showing your total ignorance of all things business....

Seriously wookie what company in China would want to sponsor a game that nobody in their country cares about.

If you were a wealthy Chinese businessman, would you waste your money on a game played in a half empty third world stadium that only Aussies really turned up to watch.

I am pretty sure they would choose a sporting club giant like Manchester United before some unusual game they don't understand which is only played in Australia.

Showing a total ignorance of all things business ....this is quite davesque
Nothing to do with ignorance. Is plain to see for everyone that AFL is trying to get there game to go international. But China have zero interest.

Half empty 3rd world stadium with only Aussies turning up says it all mate. Just one big embarrassment for AFL.

You can see wookie sookie closing the New York Rugby League team post. He is all jealous just like all AFL fans. Their game just can not gain overseas interest.

Its thick stupid shits like you seem to fixated and jealous in thinking the afl fans are jealous
given the way you fruitloops bang on about international league it would be the largest sport in he world yet it can’t even gain credibility as an international sport :(/

Rugby League rules Wembley thanks to RLWC2013
Rugby League World Cup 2013 has beaten off competition from the FA Cup Final, the Champions League Final, the NFL and several other major sporting and musical events, including The Killers and Bruce Springsteen, to be named Best Wembley Moment
of 2013.

New Zealand’s thrilling clash with England, which was decided by Shaun Johnson’s try in the final minute, was nominated for the award, and it won the popular vote from fans and members of the public as the year’s most memorable moment under the arch.

It means that for the first time since the new stadium opened Rugby League will be immortalised in stone on Wembley Way, and forever remember as the venue’s biggest moment of 2013.

RLWC2013 Tournament General Manager Sally Bolton said “Many people have called the England v New Zealand semi-final the best game of Rugby League they’d ever seen.

“However, considering the competition, it’s fantastic to get recognised like this. It’s another feather in the cap for RLWC2013 and a fantastic accolade.”

Roger Maslin, Managing Director of Wembley Stadium, said: “2013 has been an incredible year for Wembley Stadium, not just through the calibre of events hosted, but for the excitement they have provided. We’ve had last-minute winners in both major football finals, World Cup qualification for the England football team and spectacular musical performances from some world-class acts.

However, the drama of the Rugby League World Cup Semi-Final certainly befitted the occasion, so it is right to commemorate the match with a Wembley Way stone.”

Didn't more people show up to the China experiment than to the NRL's Perth debacle?

Yes, yes I'd have to agree. The afls multimillion dollarchinese debacle was perhaps the single biggest sporting flop of 2017

So it’s fair to say the afl game in China wasn’t so much of a flop

But we can say the nrlol total season was a flop
Crowds down
Ratings down
Cannot get a bank loan to pay basic operating costs
After already receiving a 50 million dollar advance on next year’s broadcast money

Persistence (aka millions of AFL $$$) pays. Future value is what they're looking at. Tapping that market, even a small slice would make a massive difference.
