Our national football code I guess. It is played right across the country at all levels ... so too is soccer but soccer does not have the following Afl has re ratings, sponsorship, crowds, memberships etc that afl has across the country. I agree plonking a team in a city does not make it national or international etc. but when you have substantial number of kids and adults playing across the nation then you can call it national add to that the following Australian Rules has across the country and exposure.

AFL do have more exposure across Australia I will give you that..

You Win Florida, California and Texas and a few northern states you pretty much win the race

Yes but you are assuming that afl is not popular in areas of nsw and qld. There is a massive presence of afl in both states so saying 55 percent go Rl because those states make up 55 percent is not quite right.

The us ekection however may be a better analogy if you consider how the electoral college votes are distrusted ... which varies depending on the state. If you go by where a proportion of college votes are distributed proportionally to the votes each candidate got that may be a better way to think of it.

Therefore ...out of say 100 rl might get 80 percent for new, union maybe 5 soccer 10 and a AFL 15. They are just figures to illustrate a point. Whereas in Victoria you maybe get afl 92 percent , Soccer 5 Rl 2 and Union 1.

My point being ... afl has a strong presence in nsw and qld. The suns, in their disarray out did the titans there re crowd. There is 3 or 4 leagues at adult level and juniors is massive.

I would agree the very little in half the country though. In our 6 th biggest city it has a very good following and even in our third biggest it has a good following. Rl is still the sport that dominates but Australian Rules is played and played a lot.

Last time a comparison was done for SEQ
Think it was 2014-15
Afl was 5th in juniors behind RL Netball SOKKA RU
In fact RL had 7 times as many juniors .

Yes good point . I was thinking comparatively to say Rl numbers in Victoria wa sa tassie.

Gold Coast we have a large junior league with some age groups have 2 or sometimes 3 divisions given the numbers. Then you have the adult leagues .. there are 2 to three of these I believe at varying levels.

Brisbane also has a very strong league for adult and juniors. On the Sunshine Coast it is not as big but they do have a junior league with several teams across several age groups and divisions in some given the numbers. Also adult Lrague as well. So from that there are obviously a lot of people playing the game. I agree the word massive is subjective and in comparison to Rl and indeed soccer, it may not be as high, it is still a sport with a large following and good participation numbers.

Take into account also that the schools competition I went to the other day on the Sunshine Coast ... 520 teams playing in the Como this year up from 419. That’s just independent state schools. That’s a lot of kids playing afl right across the state. Whereas Rl n Victoria ..... south Australia tassie ... you’d pretty much have to play in a state based competition although a couple of new clubs in vic I believe.

A quick search and here are the qld clubs ... just senior clubs I believe.

And this from aflq that dissects where the participants come from so highlights what is Auskick, what are intro, number of club players etc. now it may be no where near as Rl or soccer but it is hardly minuscule either.
