New data released by Twitter has revealed that the AFL is no longer the most popular sporting code for Aussie users to discuss.https://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/nrl-u ... 9d40679a60
Now if you could only get decent crowds to actually watch your more popular twitter sport, sponsorship and members, I’m sure you’d be well on the way.

Re: Rugby League continues to Lead The Way!
I disagree re: viewers and Nrl and afl. Maybe if you add soo but even then. We can guess at streaming but is it all really guessing until they give figures for each game like other ratings.
But again, re crowds … afl does seem to draw a crowd. Rl does as well when played at a high standard like origin. In all seriousness I do wonder why SoO can draw great crowds over 3 games each year and nrl not so much. My guess, and that’s all it is, is that apart from it being a marquee event that there is a vibe and atmosphere when you go to an orgin - the roar, the banter etc. that comes with a big crowd and a rivalary. As a Collingwood supporter I have been spoilt as when I go to a game I always get a big crowd and thus the whole vibe and atmosphere. I went to a Melbourne Richmond game at the G once and was quite surprised and remembered thinking this is what it must be like for other teams supporters.
Also, the old chestnut that nrl is better on tv to explain low crowds just doesn’t cut it otherwise people would stay home to watch origin. Anyway just my opinion: don’t get your nickers in a know if you disageee or use insults… it isn’t going to change my opinion… and that’s all it is…. My opinion.

Re: Rugby League continues to Lead The Way!
the NRL outrated the AFL with 7 less games played in 2021 by between 8 & 9 million & when origin is added its over 17 million sport v sport. streaming is calculated for both sports & the NRL is way ahead on all data released & the figures projected would certainly stand up under scrutiny.Fred wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 3:03 pmI disagree re: viewers and Nrl and afl. We won easily.
As for that old chestnut , i agree its not much of an excuse at all & I never use it.
But there are other valid reasons , Sydney is a dick .. a cow of a place to get around in & so the grounds for some of its NRL teams are locked away in suburban areas , & they're small with most barely holding 20K.
Leichardt, Campbelltown , Brookvale , Penrith Park , Shark Park , Kogarah & Wollongong all only have capacities of around 20K & combined have over 50 games a year played at them.
The code is attempting to fix this. But Generally speaking Sydneysiders have grown used to not having to travel far in their lunatic city to watch a game of NRL & so they don't & thats the same for all sports played there
The AFL gets good crowds at the SCG , but thats the snoody eastern suburbs set & they go because they don't have to travel far. The AFL games played at Homebush apart from a few early on have been poorly attended for this very reason.
Same for the Waratahs at Homebush , ok crowds at Moore Park ... shit crowds at homebush.
Sydneysiders usually will not travel unless its an event & we have more then half of our games played there. This drags the average down.
This whole topic about which code is more popular isn't so much about RL fans claiming the AFL isn't popular , no its more arrogant deluded AFL fans believing their code is that far ahead & has no rivals , talking down the NRL at every opportunity & your but but butting in that last post is a perfect example.
NRL fans here & everywhere else are just giving you clowns a dose of reality with all the little pointers clearly showing the AFL indeed has a worthy rival in the only country on earth its played in & indeed RL is every bit as popular

Pretty obvious what you mean by “the gap keeps getting wider”, what were you referring to? Rugby Union, the NSW Cup? A-League?pussycat Mark 11 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 11:35 pm

“ And Quolls using 'AFL' and the word 'world' in the same sentence has me rolling around on the floor in danger of busting a gut I'm laughing that loud .” AFL has the 4th highest average attendance of all professional sports leagues in the WORLD. NRL does not.
A bit hard for some NRL fans to accept, but there is a solution for that..convince your fans to actually go to NRL games.

Re: Rugby League continues to Lead The Way!
Wow - go 7. So the AFL Grand Final was the number 1 programme for the year? And No 1 winter sport. How do they base that No 1 Winter Sport thing - does it include AFLW - or just the AFL - and how did the NRL fair? Do they count SoO and Tests in the NRL count or are they events? I'll have to read the article now - too many questions that don't add up to what is written on here re: NRL being the most popular?? Maybe it is a NRL - SoO distinction thing.
