Rugby attracts more rating , That just a fact.

That's it?

Is "Australia's most popular sport" based on that alone from your 2 states?
Never realised quite how much hate there was for AFL from our Northern friends.

The 'minute by minute' argument is one of the absolute worst and reeks of desperation.
Let me explain for you
Some afl posters on here try to say that Aflol ratings should be multiplied by 1.5 because games go for 120 mins compared to RL games at 80 mins .
That's desperation there .
Can't accept that RL is the most watched sport so they apply some bizarre theory .
Yet when you say ok we shall apply that to the tv deal which makes RL far more valuable
We get far more per hr for broadcast than afl does it suddenly doesn't apply .

You can't have it both ways ...& that's excatly what lol tries to do .

So
I'm ok saying .
RL wins the ratings. Is the most watched
& AFL got the higher media deal .

Yet the cultists can't bring themselves to admit that Aflol gets beaten in ratings .
They really are bizarre theories. Neither valid at all.
You're right though.
RL is the most watched code.
But the AFL is the most watched competition.
And as it stands, until the next cycle have the ratings war won for converting those viewers into sheets.
To the tune of $50,000,000 more a season.
I'll presume the next cycle will more accurately represent the higher numbers for RL with a bigger deal than the AFL.
Is that your prediction too crap?

Rugby Leagues generates more TV ratings. ie. more viewers . Meaning it is Australia most watched sport .

The amount of states has nothing to do with it.

More big wins for the AFL on Friday night and Saturday night over the NRL. Yet somehow leaguies believe their code rates better. Go figure.

These looked like pretty comfy AFL wins (not knowing how foxtel changes things) . After looking at these this morning... I wondered what they normally look like? And that's a genuine question as I know the NRL generally outrates.
And do the fans just turn off when it's the Storm?

Argument :hmm: what argument ????????????????? An 'argument' would suggest there some doubt or debate over this! there's not. Rugby league is watched by more Australians than any other sport. And this is a fact. Only a very stupid person argues with facts.

What you may not realise Steve, even though the AFL regularly smashes the NRL for ratings.
At the end of the season when they add NRL, state of origin and international games viewers all together RL eclipses the stand alone AFL total.
That's why they always refer to it as RL (Rugby league) as a code being the most watched.

But of course if you look at stand alone competitions, the AFL is the most watched competition, hence the regular smashing of the NRL.

I hope this was helpful and allow you to now have more informed retorts regarding ratings to our northern counterparts.

Haha thanks mate. At least that makes sense, sorta, with the accumulated totals.

So do we subtract the Melbourne ratings from origin, gf and Internationals from your year end total? Coz those figures are coming from people with a different favourite sport.

That's a good story, but does sports capitol mention the report that came out at the half way point of the season that had the AFL well behind? Maybe he forgot

here's my take on the ratings battle:

- AFL consistently outrates the NRL on FTA, and consistently on STV when the scheduling conditions are similar. This includes games on Thursdays, Fridays and public holidays.

- However, the NRL consistently outrate the AFL on STV on Saturday's and Sundays. This is because the AFL overlap almost all their games on the weekend so every game cannibalises viewers from another. The NRL do not do this, they make sure none of their games are shown at the same time as another.

- The end result, when SOO and other rep games are included, is RL wins the total of all ratings for the year.

My view is the cumulative ratings would only be relevant when considering popularity if scheduling conditions were identical, or at least similar. They are not, so the figure is meaningless.

Fact is our GF is usually ahead of theirs, our finals usually beat theirs, our blockbuster games usually beat theirs, and our games in general usually beat theirs when shown under similar conditions.

would love to see an updated article given our ratings have definitely improved while yours have dropped significantly. You know this of course given you had 7 matches over 1mil in the first 10 rounds and havent had one since.
