Post by Beaussie »

Good to see the race clubs fight back against Packer's Sky Channel. He's been screwing the race clubs for too long and now looks set to be the biggest loser in the battle for racing TV rights:

Horse racing pay TV company ThoroughVisioN (TVN) is experiencing galloping demand from new subscribers.

TVN began live coverage of Melbourne and Victorian racing on May 4 with the Warrnambool carnival.

Since then, new subscriptions to the TVN Channel through Foxtel Digital have been running at more than 1,000 per day, chief executive Peter Sweeney said.

"The addition of Melbourne and Victorian coverage this week is the perfect complement to our existing Sydney service," Mr Sweeney said.

Total subscriptions were set to exceed 13,000 over the weekend, he said.

Coverage of racing is split between TVN and Sky.

TVN, 50 per cent owned by the Victorian racing clubs and 50 per cent by the Australian Jockey Club and Sydney Turf Club, show the Victorian and Sydney races.

Sky has all other thoroughbred racing coverage as well as greyhound and harness racing and some overseas racing.

TVN is rolling out installation of infrastructure to more than 2200 pubs and clubs in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT.

The premium sports and interactive rights management company is also reviewing national race programme timing with racing authorities around the country in order to streamline TVN racing broadcasts.

TVN said it was negotiating with Tabcorp in relation to the provision of live odds updates to the commencement of each race, and was hopeful of reaching a positive outcome this week.
