Well 1/3rd of the population can watch the early game. If fans were going to chose the 8pm game would always win out because it's FTA and in a more friendly viewing time slot. Therefore it's clearly going to be the choice of the 2 games.

Funny how none of you acknowledge this when we show 5 games on Saturday

SportsCaptial >>> where did you get the AFL get 50mill per year..

i was of the assumption it was only 20mill per season...?

you got to remember the NRL deal is 5 years the AFL is 6 years..

Now a Network would pay that little bit extra for an extra year of security ...
It's actually 56m more per season. 50m was a nice round number.
2.5b / 6 = 416m
1.8b / 5 = 360m
oh ok... thanks
the deal i had counted N.Z T.V deal as the warriors are part of the league..
yes yes i know, Australian Tv Media only...
but that pushed it closer to the 2billion mark.

15 to 18 teams if not counted N.Z (plus 3 SOO games) pretty good outcome for the NRL really..
Was there more to the deal than the reported 1.8b?

both codes deals
included
Ch9 FOX Telstra / digital rights >>> 5 year deal
Ch7 FOX Telstra / digital rights >>> 6 year deal

however both codes did not include radio deals in
as they were signed months later.

NRL did not include N.Z T.V Deal
which fetched 100million in the 2013 tv deal>> and since than tv deals have doubled.
tv figures are up.. but there is no sources suggesting how much N.Z actually paid..
well nothing i can find..

But it just goes in one ear and out the other. Then around we go again. Or sometimes a different excuse, only more fucked up than the first. Then round & round we go. Another excuse, a fucked up theory, but, but, but. [-(

Surprising, there is no figures on this.
So are both deals due to expire at the same time?

yeah it is surprising>> its very hard these days even to find NZ tv Figures..

Yes both codes deals are now aligned with the AFL doing a 6 Year Deal.

now the question is.. if you were a media Network would you pay more for a 6 year tv deal
to get that extra security of a extra year locked in.

my opinion is yes.. the big question is how much..

and I respond with you only have 3 metro markets, 2 of which have only 1 team. We have 5 metro markets with 4 having 8 teams.

The NRL can target their entire metro heartland in 1 game, while we need multiple games do get the same result.

We have 1 or 2 games shown on their own, and win those almost every time. The all our other games are overlapped with other AFL games which means they rate about half their potential. Afterall, no one can watch 2 games at once, and even if you could it wouldnt be counted by OZTAM. So taking this into account the ratings are similar per round, but the NRL have more rounds, SOO and other rep games. So counting all those together means RL is ahead.

However, one point that isnt taken into account is our 9 games go over 27 hours of viewing, while their 8 games go for only 16 hours. So for an NRL fan to be counted 8 times by OZTAM over a round (ie a neutral fans watching every game) they only need to watch 2 hours on Thursday, 4 hours on Friday, 6 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday. While that's a fair bit of TV it's spread out over 4 days and therefore achievable.

For an AFL fan to be counted 9 times by OZTAM over a round (ie watching every game) they need to watch 3 hours on Friday, a whopping 15 hours on Saturday, then 9 hours on Sunday. Realistically, who is going to watch 27 hours of sport in 2 and a bit days? In fact they couldnt even do it if they tried because all but one of those games overlap with another AFL game. Therefore, the most they can watch is 18 hours which means they are only counted 6 times, not 9 times. In other words an AFL fan can watch 2 more hours of AFL over a weekend and counted as watching 2 less games, which drastically effects the season total.

For these reasons the ratings totals for the full season are completely misleading and heavily favour the NRL.
Concise!
I have a much better understanding now. Thanks.
Is it true they have less than 0.1% of the population metered?

To answer your question, "my" network would look for the longest deal possible. Paying 2018 prices for a product in 2024 sounds like a bargain to me.

Yep if they can't fix the ugly mess that has caused the ratings to dive & the ch 7 boss to ask for rule changes then they will not get an increase .

The fans are up in arms about leave the game alone? You'll find most fans acknowledge the congestion issue, don't like it and want the AFL to step in.
Never realised quite how much hate there was for AFL from our Northern friends.

will be interesting to see who gets in first..

Both codes will want there game running well and rating well..

interesting the AFL wanted it lined up with the NRL TV Deal..

but YES!
I would say the networks paid that little extra to secure the AFL for an extra Year..

does make the NRL deal look even better considering
