John Ribot has become the latest leading sports administrator to switch codes - by taking on the chairmanship of A-League soccer side Queensland Roar.

The former Brisbane and Melbourne rugby league chief executive follows former Australian Rugby Union boss and current Football Federation Australia head John O'Neill into the round-ball game.

Ribot said yesterday he was excited by the soccer challenge, particularly the prospect of competition with Asian teams.

The club will play its home games at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium and Ribot said the Roar had to win over the south-east Queensland public.

"They've just got to put a winning culture into this thing straight away and that will feed on to the supporters," Ribot said. "That's a big challenge for us, getting people to come along and watch it live."

Former Socceroo Gary Wilkins will be his deputy, with Lawrence Oudendyk chief executive.

Hmmm, Ribot certainly moves around. So much for his loyalty to rugby league. Any chance of Suncorp Stadium seeing a sellout for soccer? From memory it's already happened once for the Brisbane Strikers GF in the NSL, how about for the Queensland Roar? Love the name, NOT.
