Please don't try to compare the two leagues .

We have & have had gay people in our sport ..with no problems .
We had a gay anthem sung at our GF which was well supported ..

Your sport on the other hand has had no gay male players dare to come out .
& the afl took their gay support sign down ..
Was it because the homophobic fans got upset .
lets see how your gay RL player describes his experience:

Ian downplays his coming out, calling his sexuality “the worst kept secret in rugby league.”

Despite being told by his coach that it wouldn’t be accepted, and his fears that his personal and professional lives couldn’t possibly mix, Ian decided to be open about his orientation after getting to know a child with HIV.

Ian thought he would open the door for other athletes to come out – but he was surprised when, decades later, the game hadn’t changed as much as he’d expected.

“I thought there would be a trickle on effect … I wouldn’t have thought, 20 years down the line, that only one other player had come out at the end of his career,” he says. “We like to think things have changed, but they haven’t really.”

http://www.sbs.com.au/news/insight/arti ... gue-player

So according to Roberts he was told by someone within the NRL NOT to come out. Despite this he did so, not because he felt supported or accepted, but because he felt convicted about someone he knew who lived with AIDS. Since coming out he has seen no real change in attitudes about gay acceptance within the RL community.

So you can take your sanctimonious horse shit about the differences in gay acceptance and shove it up your arse
Lol a little bit touchy are we .
Simple fact
We have had a gay player
We have an openly gay referee .
No probs

& just because a coach advised against it doesn't Change the fact that he was accepted .
Just like Checcin is accepted .
& I can be as sanctimonious as I want to be
Because your backward racist homophipobic sport still hasn't had a gay male come out .
It is well into the 2000s
Except in afl ..welcome to 1950 .

you only have 1 player who came out decades ago. Not because he was supported to, in fact he was advised not to. He only did it out of respect for a friend. Your only gay player has expressed disappointment about the lack of support and change in the NRL since.

So it's funny when you use him as proof of your code's acceptance for the gay community when its actually the opposite

Lol nope
We have a current high profile referee. .
& as explained
Being advised by one person means little
When the fact is he was accepted when he came out .

Your sport is still waiting to cross that bridge .

Why is that
that bridge was crossed by a RL player despite advice he was given, not because he felt accepted. Why havent there been any since him? Why, according to that player, did nothing change despite his decision?

You've had one cross who did so despite attitudes, we've had none cross. You think one is better than the other?

Oh dear
Let me dumb it down for you
In RL if a player is gay he knows that it will not be a problem
Was not a problem for Roberts
Is not a problem for Matt Checcin now

In AFL
No one knows what the reaction will be because no gay male player has ever come out .
Hence probably why it hasn't happened

We have crossed the bridge 20+ years ago
With no issues
Your lot haven't arrived at the bridge yet .
So there is no comparison
An AFl player has no idea if his co players or fans will be accepting ..

Like living in 1950

The afl and NRL position on same sex marriage has been validated by the overwhelming majority of Australians who voted yes for marriage equality.

Hooray for the afl and NRL for having the gonads to state their organisation's position.

Though I bet buzz and many other afl fans are disgusted that today they've officially been demoted to minority status :(/

There there buzz  there there. You'll just have to protect ur kids the best you can now ok? :(/
I dunno... perhaps if you lifted some weights for a change you'd feel better?
62 % was it?

:>::
And if you take out religious drongos who still think we're living in jesus's era it would likely be 72%

And if you also take out recent Muslim and other immigrants who come from countries that punish homosexuality it'd prob be more like 82%.

so basically dear buzz, it was a fukkin landslide. And ur on the losing side bro

Make sure you protect ur kids, the NRL or afl might teach em how to be gay now marriage equality is set to occur. :(/

Bahaha you have nfi as per usual
One player who came out in the 90s at the end of his career to make money out of and no other player come out since
Your codes commission does nothing to support the gay communities

Mean while the afl does my and even have has a gay pride round

So your logic the nrlol in general is still homophobic

Bahahahahahaha
The usual self irony in your stupid logic
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m

Oh & Roberts was not at the end of his career ..you're full of shit as usual

Here's a lesson .
The NRL has been there done that with Gay people in our sport .
It's not an issue .
We don't need a token Gay round .
Because it's not an issue in RL
You boast about a gay pride round in afl .
Wow that worked wonders .
How many players come out after that ..
Lol 0
Why .....because as usual with afl it's tokenism .
It's being seen to be so accepting ..so pro active .
Lol
The absurdness of it all
They seem to have a lot of tokenism rounds

Didn't they have a left handed round or some shit like that a few years ago .

I put that down to a big immigrant no vote due to religious & cultural thinking .

As for the rest .

Lol is that all you've got

I can't see how it has anything to do with rL

I've explained how being gay is a non issue in our sport

We have moved on well past the homophobia .

So yeh an overall political vote had nothing to do with rL

Yes it is, I am proud my governing body is a supporter (just like they supported rainbow laces round) considering we have an openly gay player in our National women's team I would hope they would support it.
