yeah I agree with both points>
its proven throughout the world (domestic is everything)
NRL is going down the path of pacific way> not for money but for player talent

Well MLR has just announced that Washing DC will join in 2020 and an LA team is close to confirming, along with Vancouver, Toronto and Dallas, Boston, Chicago and Kansas. So it looks like USA are well on their way and won't need super rugby.

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
hear hear to that>> I don't think the USA would want Super Rugby (domestic Comp would suit them well)
What grounds are these teams playing out of ?
are they well equip stadiums like how the soccer operates in the U.S

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
At this stage all but one team share their grounds with soccer clubs (Utah warriors are using Salt Lake city Football clubs new 5k stadium). Each club has plans in place to build their own stadium, Houston was recently given a grant to build a new stadium next year. The biggest capacity is only 6k. So the league is starting small then building as the league expands. Seattle have sold out all 4 of their homes games capacity 4.5kleeroy*NRL* wrote: βWed May 16, 2018 3:25 pmhear hear to that>> I don't think the USA would want Super Rugby (domestic Comp would suit them well)

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
wow ok, nice foundation to build from, owning there own stadium is a great way to start
be interesting to see this in 5 years from now..
League in the USA has not really gone anywhere in the past 8-10 years.

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
The thing that is scary is the USA is said to have 125,000 registered Rugby players.
That is more than Australia. They could become a real superpower in the game.
And if Rugby becomes big in the USA, it will probably benefit League to in a small way.

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
They do have a large player pool because its in a lot of schools and universities now. Only issue its the quality of players. But with the new league as it grow, the quality of players will grow too. Give it 5-10 years. USA are a really competitive now thanks their players being contracted.NRL&NFLweLaughATafl wrote: βSat May 19, 2018 12:35 pmThe thing that is scary is the USA is said to have 125,000 registered Rugby players.

The USA is big enough for both sports but I don't think their current approach is going to work. Yes it exposes american's to rugby league but it doesn't help with development because at the moment they don't have the players that are Championship/super league quality. So it doesn't help their national side because all the players in the pro team/s will be foreigners.

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
Another team has been confirmed for the 2019 MLR season. LA Coast https://www.facebook.com/La-Coast-Rugby ... 506586661/
Bringing the confirmed teams for season 2 to 9 with the Toronto team in negotiations which will most likely bring it to 10 teams. DC has also been confirmed but aren't decided when they will start 2019 or 2020.
Looks like super rugby wont be going anywhere near USA if this keeps up.

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
Based on what I've ready the will be playing out of York Lion Stadium which they have been playing their exhibition matches in. They've just been confirmed into the MLR for the 2019 season so 10 teams now for season 2. I think there maybe 2 other teams joining but not confirm. Atlanta, dallas and Minneapolis.NRL&NFLweLaughATafl wrote: βSat Jul 14, 2018 12:37 pmWill be interesting to see where the Toronto home ground will be based.rugby365 wrote: βThu Jul 05, 2018 9:21 amAnother team has been confirmed for the 2019 MLR season. Vancouver are starting to build a team who will be play exhibition matches in 2019. So expect them to be in season 3 with Washington and Chicago who have started building their new rugby complex.

Rugby Union are really pushing ahead nicely...
R.L has not seem to have done much in the past 10 years with the new comps in place

Re: Super Rugby retrying expansion with a USA team.
League has the potential for expansion but as long as the NRL is top dog they will do anything to stop international expansion. Look at the denver test, they've put a proposal through to block it but having the pacific tests. NZ will fall in line because they pay their fees.leeroy*NRL* wrote: βTue Jul 17, 2018 2:02 pmRugby Union are really pushing ahead nicely...

NRL has been holding back international Rugby League for the past 20 years.
They wanted to look after domestic level and did not care much for International
I think with these new schedules in play things are starting to change slowly
Rugby Union however has just gotten stronger and stronger Internationally
