Womens Cricket rates better on TV than Mens Soccer in Australia

Post by Beaussie »

Way to go ladies. Yep, harsh reality for the soccer lover and things will only get worse once mens BBL cricket begins. :(/

World game apparently.

Lucky for Channel 10 they got the soccer tv rights for free. Who’d seriously pay for that shit to be on FTA tv in Australia? Beyond embarrassing.

The big bash is just cricket trying to emulate a superior code. Major League Baseball.

What is even funnier is they only have 8 teams. Are 30 in the Major League.

Should just leave cricket to subcontinental nations to play.

Great ratings for the ladies cricket but the soccer folk must be starting to worry with the mens BBL about to start as well.

There doesn't seem to be any marquee players in the Aleague this year which is really hurting them. When they had Del Peira, Heskey and Ono a few years ago the crowds and ratings were way up on what they are now.

The only positive is that if some clubs can find the money to get some top line international players things could turn around pretty quick.

Wow! Go the women cricket players!!

I must say terry, as per usual makes some fine points. He really is quite the voice of reason on these boards.

Beaussie, it's time, give terry admin status.

yeah good points Tez.
I like it when you post like this :thumbleft:

even with better FTA coverage of better blockbuster games
the A League is struggling to get anything good.

I do recall BUZZ Phil Rothfield saying that the A League Derby is the biggest game in NSW

he's been very quiet>>

Oh gawd, yeah I remember that rubbish about the Sydney soccer derby. Crowds at ANZ Stadium appear to have halved since last year and the tv ratings... shessh

Just imagine from that 55,000 FTA viewers nationwide on Saturday night, just how small the actual Sydney breakdown was? Scary thought for soccer fans no doubt.

The GWS Giants easily get bigger tv audience numbers in Sydney and yet we are constantly told they have no support. What’s that tv ratings comparison then say about soccer’s popularity in Sydney then? Hmm :hmm:

Usually the AL starts with huge fanfare & media hype .
This year seemed to be low key .....I can see why
The ratings are terrible
& when the BBL starts it usually confines the AL to OBLIVION .
This year the AL is already half way in the door to oblivion before a ball is bowled
TLPG 🤣liar extraordinaire
You should thank me for publishing your IP

and I never published any actual IP. That's it.

I was a mod at the time .

Will soccer go the way of basketball in Australia? I remember the NBL began to get a decent following in the 90's, and had a reasonable following on FTA TV. Now the clubs struggle and the league has a poor following despite decent participation numbers.

it is about 800 down on last years average crowd, so yea a MASSIVE difference, idiots.

BTW bigger crowds for Sydney FC v Wanderers than Swans V Giants, after all isn't that what you like comparing, Swans v NRL Teams?

Two team city A league v AFL in Sydney and AFL doesn't even come close to the proper Sydney Derby
Football in NSW
- Football 200,868
- AFL NSW/ACT 28,468
- Rugby League 96,041
- Rugby Union 40,685
Football has 22% more players than the other football codes combined

the 2 Sydney A league teams average 15k and 17k for home attendance, while the Swans average 33k and the giants 13k. That's 46k for the AFL v 32k for the A league.

800 per game is a decent drop given your game only averages a bit over 12k. In fact the A league has dropped in average attendance for 4 years in a row, and down again so far this year

Post_hoc does it concern you that women’s cricket outrates your biggest domestic league derby game easily?

LOL, so a direct comparison between two Sydney derby and this poster goes but but but. God the AFL fanboys are so predictable

Yearly average is far more relevant than a single derby, especially when one of the derbies is held at a ground with a small capacity

the Socceroos charge to the world cup which ate into the first few rounds of the league>>

seem to have really taken he heart of the season>>

I predict more pain to come as the MENS BIG BASH KICKS OFF
