I am wondering which people are benefiting from this project. I suspect this is something serious if the government are willing to lose an election over it... wouldn’t surprise me. Do you think peoples responses would be different if the nrl and fta chipped in some money ?

When logic is excused from decisions like this you just have to follow the money. The will be vested interest somewhere. Refurbishing these stadiums is the logical thing to do.

Afl contributed as did too local government. Did you read beassuies post re who lobbied for what.

I think it is the cost as well and lack of other community benefits. This all benefits big sport mainly.

Could the nrl really stuff this up. It’s a marketing nightmare. I wonder if the outcry will grow and people boycott the stadium ... as it appears they do now for standard games. Plus anz is a ***** to get to.

At the end of the day Sydney is a far more international city than Melbourne.

So being the most international city in Australia, it needs proper international code venues to attract the more global sports.

We don't care to attract AFL with these stadiums. It's for real international football and rugby codes. Or college gridiron football.

AFL has the scg, and that is all they will ever need. They are not even in the picture or thoughts for world class rectangular stadiums in Sydney.

Yes I would suspect that Australian rules, being played on an oval would not be in the thoughts of rectangular stadia in Sydney ?

By the way ... I think that it is noice that Sydney is trying to compete with Nelbourne re world class sporting events. They don’t need to fix the stadia in so much as the transport to and from.

This is why we NSW Government is building Stadiums

ANZ Stadium and Allianz Stadium, even in their current, inadequate states, host 200 major men's and women's fixtures across five codes every year and both venues attract 3.5 million people per year to major events and a total 17 million precinct visitors.
Allianz and ANZ, inject more than $1 billion into the NSW economy every year, meaning the initial $2 billion government investment is repaid in two years. If the state government doesn't invest in these facilities, it puts at risk the supply of critical revenue to NSW that funds schools and hospitals, as well as the jobs of one in 23 people who rely on the events sector.

Tourism is worth $33.2 billion a year to the NSW economy and it supports 164,000 jobs and more than 96,000 businesses in NSW rely on the sector.

Thats pretty stupid logic. The 1bil revenue is already provided, so to pay off an additional 2bil an additional 2bil will need to be raised. Thats the point. Poor attendance culture in Sydney does warrant such massive spending when existing facilities are under utilised

And what proof is there that upgrades will result in increased crowd sizes and revenue? At least in Perth their new stadium was justified due to their existing stadium being filled almost every week.

points below>

1. Olympic Park is a very bad ground for rectangle codes>
2. crowds have always been affected for all sporting codes at Olympic Venue>
3. SFS Facilites are not up to scratch> its a very old ground (1988 if I recall)
4. SYDNEY is 5million PEOPLE HUGE ECONOMY why should it have the worst stadiums in AUSTRALIA?
5. Sydney is building 3 stadiums for 2.5 bill ( perth is building 1 stadium for 1.3bill)
6. need better stadiums to attract big and better events.
7. the stadiums after all this investment will be paid back in a few years With so much gain
8. Building stadiums creates thousands and thousands of jobs
9. Olympic Park was built well. but was not designed well >
10. these stadiums will be designed a lot better and be able to cover events for the next 30-40 years
11. last but not least

ANZ Stadium and Allianz Stadium, even in their current, inadequate states, host 200 major men's and women's fixtures across five codes every year and both venues attract 3.5 million people per year to major events and a total 17 million precinct visitors

Look at all those events for 2 stadiums and people attending>>
it eclipses Perth's Stadium for attendances >> there is the PROOF>>
It can only can get Bigger & better>> with state of art stadiums>

What demand, you said current stadium is almost full every week, really?

Who played there last week? The week before?, The week before that?

Who is playing there on Saturday January 6th?
According to Austadiums last used 18/11 for international rules before that 24/09 WA Grandfinal before that 27/08. Looks like it gets used once per week for a few months a year
