So it’s fair to say the afl game in China wasn’t so much of a flop

But we can say the nrlol total season was a flop
Crowds down
Ratings down
Cannot get a bank loan to pay basic operating costs
After already receiving a 50 million dollar advance on next year’s broadcast money
Persistence (aka millions of AFL $$$) pays. Future value is what they're looking at. Tapping that market, even a small slice would make a massive difference.
Lol you sound like the
If we can get 1% mob .

They tried it in NZ .
How'd that go .

They tried a game in Canada ages ago
How'd that go

They tried it in England ages ago .
How'd that go .

Face realty
A small slice is a bridge way too far

We are taking about the sporting flop of the year? Yes !

Then it’s your nrlol
Based on those results!
The afl game was a trial one off game, that wasn’t ever going to change a nations sporting code like you dweebs think.
It achieved what it was set out to do is to make money! And it did!

So there for the reason why the sporting flop of the year is the nrlol season
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million

Leagueiscrap
and she still changes your nappies as well!

With Chinese culture regarding physical fitness so high it makes sense to try and break into their market. No other team ball sport runs further for longer.

They weren't in China. The AFL will persist with this venture even if it's at a loss.

Firstly, it’s not the afl persisting with it or even their initiative; it is port Adelaide’s.

Port have done it to get sponsors mainly and this has been successful.

Port do want to get the games into schools etc as well which I think is folly.

Hasn’t cost the afl anything ...apart from a bad look. Costing the suns too as most supporters hate it.

Maybe they could convert the laughable mythiCAL ( iirc) 4 million tv viewers they beat their chest about from an earlier fumble game .
Funny didn't hear of any more ratings after that .
:(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

Or maybe they could convert the large section of the missing crowd from that first game .
The ones who preferred to spend all their time eating out the back .

If only you could get them interested .

The commission can’t get a bank loan to pay operating costs
:\: :\: :\:

Oh how this thread back fired on the nrlol folks
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million

:drunk:

I'm pretty sure this is the level of thinking that is expressed down at afl hq!

I can just imagine their board meetings

afl board member douchebag - so they say there's like a billion people in China, if we can get one percent of that market we'll be so awesome, right?

gil machlachlan :-k you know what... You're fukkin onto something! You're a bloody genius!!!

afl board member douchebag 2 (trying to sound smart for browny points) :hmm: and the Ahhhhh =P~ The Ahhhhh ... :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: the Chinese culture, yes the Chinese culture really regards physical fitness so high and our boys are physically fit so then it makes sense :o =P~

gil machlachlan  :compress: this is soooooo right right now, will someone give that man a raise!!

Sport capital for your information dude. Culture is a concept. A Culture doesn't "regard physical fitness" in any way whatsoever.

Pickup yer game!

Well the smoke and mirrors of everything AFL is well in play for this one. Let's get a few facts out there.

"Enter SA Premier Jay Weatherill with the announcement his government will support the event after grabbing naming rights for the stadium in Shanghai."

AND:

"Arguments over what guernsey would be worn, players flying in cattle class AND A FAILURE TO LURE ANY COMMERCIAL SPONSORSHIP from the historic game added to the poor result on field" Gold Coast bulletin.

http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/spo ... d119c4fe1d

So one of the main arguments about playing in China was to get sponsorship from Chinese companies. And the fumbling zealots here have of course whistled the party line that it was a great financial success. Drones.

Hmmmmmmm. If that's the case why the hell is little SA - a sad desert state that can't keep the lights on or the air conditioners working - paying money for naming rights of a 3rd world stadium in China???? Where are the Chinese companies????? Where is the Chinese money??

And now we get an admission that the Suns FAILED TO LURE ANY COMMERCIAL SPONSORSHIP from this years mess.

Kinda flys in the face of of fumbleball propaganda!!!!! Who woulda known???? I call flop!!!!!

Only 1k Chinese bothered to turn up. Despite the fact that 3k tickets were given away to the Chinese. Doesn't that tell you something?

And we've all seen the athletic ability of AFL players when there pitted against athletes from other codes. It ain't pretty to watch :(/ :(/ :(/
