I think lack of interest was the word they used Fred.
like any competition there will be dead rubbers in the last few rounds. The AFL are looking at a way to keep all games relevant towards the end of the season. Heaven forbid they try to be creative for the betterment of the game

Yeah I'm not a big fan of wild cards. I'm thinking if 7 to 12 play off for a finals spot I could live with that maybe .... but imagine 12th makes it through and goes in to win the gf. I'm not a big fan off the finals system we have in this coutry as a way to find the best side. Having a team that finished 7th and clearly not the best side across the season win the gf clearly highlighted this last year ... I don't think peaking for 4 weeks means anything.

For mine... play each other once and who finishes on top is the best side. Then separately, have a knock out comp involving all teams with top playing bottom and so forth. The two would be totally seperate.

AFL seems to have a too thin talent pool. I guess they are realising something has to be done when the same teams win premierships multiple times in a row.

Too thin a pool? That's an interesting perspective. There are leagues providing players right across the country ?

AFL might have reserve clubs, but for teams to be winning multiple premierships in a row shows there is a lack of decent competitive teams in recent years.

With afl being played right across the nation I doubt there is a shortage of players coming through. If afl are in trouble with this regard I would hate to think how ru and rl are going with participation numbers apparently dropping in nsw and qld (where rl is mainly played).

Mostly the Southern states. While league gets them from the Northern States , England , New Zealand, Pac. islands as well as others.

Tassie, Victoria, south Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory "... not all southern states. Afl also very big in Riverina area in nsw. Large presence on Gold Coast too.

Do you know how many nsw and qld players there are in the afl at present. Some of the afls greatest players are from nsw and ... and act I believe.

That does not change the fact you have a lopsided competition with teams winning multiple premierships.

In Rugby League you can win the NRL grand final and then lose against the Super League premiers like Cronulla did against Wigan in the world club challenge final.

Is alot more competitive in League. That's a fact.

So why have broncos and Storm had more finals appearances in the last few decades than any AFL team?

Poor old fumbler .
Back to this argument that he's already lost .

Teams that make the finals a lot are CONSISTANT . Teams that win multiple GFs in a row
DOMINATE.

I think a WILD CARD SYSTEM would be stupid..

it works in the NFL because of conferences and double the amount of teams
