Given that no assistance or concessions to a start up club would also create an uneven playing field, what level of concessions would you see as appropriate to offset the disadvantages of being a start up club?

Lol
None of that changes the fact that it's a compromised comp on field .
No level playing field .
Syd finally got rid of cola ...this year only to have it still there under another name .
When all things are even on field then it's a fair comp
Rl for all its faults has this part of the game covered .

Afl ...basically rigged to ensure new teams & some non heartland teams are successful .
No AFL club gets the same assistance as the Broncos. Yes it's off field, but its a major reason why they remain successful year after year, all for ratings.

What assistance are the swas getting now the COLA has gone?
Oh my
A mushroom dweller or just pretending it doesn't happen .

Sydney's controversial cost-of-living allowance will be removed by the start of the 2017 season but the AFL will compensate the Swans with a new rent subsidy, which the league will pay directly to footballers earning less than the average players' wage.

However, Greater Western Sydney appears to have been successful in its push to retain an additional $1 million in its salary cap, which the AFL will continue to support in recognition of the unique challenges faced by the Giants as they battle to establish themselves. GWS players will also receive the rental subsidy from the start of 2017.

The cost-of-living allowance that affords the two Sydney-based clubs an extra 9.8 per cent worth of salary cap room will be phased out - in the Swans' case over 2015 and 2016 - with all existing contracts, including Lance Franklin's, to be honoured going forward.

Instead the AFL will directly allocate an estimated $15,000 to every player on the lower side of the wage spectrum. By 2017 the qualification ceiling for rent subsidy is expected to include all footballers earning below an annual $300,000.

How much was in the future fund in the previous years annual report?

Your just envious because News LTD chose our game to spearhead its start up business. Nobody has(or will) show any interest in yourcrappy game , that's just a fact!. Our game is growing faster than yours in just about every area!

so you asked a question & I answered ...& it highlighted that new clubs DONT need any extra on field benefits to be successful .
So what do you do ...go on a rant about something else .
Typical fumbler reaction .

No, I admire you passion. If there is something to know about the afl you and maybe wookie would be the two best sources. It was a compliment man.... geez. I was telling the others not to argue ... I think in response to paying rents for low earning players.... I mean .... you just pull that out so quick it's like you've got a file of afl articles. I know it's on the net but I wouldn't even know that it was an issue to look up. The fact you must have read an article.. about a code you hate, is amazing and to be commended.

I know some fActs because I've posted them plenty of times on here .
You know what is funny
I can repost the same stuff in reply to fumblers either being dumb or playing dumb about the crap that goes on their code .

I had this same argument a few months ago .
Lol with a Swans fan on here .
Seems he had no idea what goes on at his club

Simply put .if you're going to argue try to have some basic facts or an idea about what's going on .

I think sometimes people are not arguing but just having a discussion on what they believe or think or even on what they have heard .... it's just a chat like you might have at a pub or over a beer at a BBQ etc. i don't for instance fact check everything and if someone says actually that's not the case then that's fine. I must admit you know far more than me and I would think a lot of people about some ins and outs of afl going on and credit to you for that. I wouldn't know near anything about the nrl ... in fact most I know comes from here lol.

Theres a shit load more to it than that.

The AFLs superleague shot was in 1985, where several clubs lead by John Elliot had proposed a new league with the bigest clubs and some from SA and WA. At the same time the VFL had been looking at its options since 1981. Fortunately for the VFL and its clubs they were able to work shit out like adults and businessmen for the good of the game.

That lead to the biggest key - the independent commission - a version of which was voted in through 1986, but it wasnt until 1993 that the AFL clubs voted themselves out of power - unthinkable in the NRL climate.

The fact that the AFL signed its clubs to franchise agreements in 1986 was another part. Another was that the VFL Commission had delivered in commercial and media terms and every one knew it. it also helped that expansion to perth and adelaide had paid off handsomely.

Perhaps signifcant as well was the VFL decision in 1987 to tell Seven to get stuffed and opt for ABC coverage at 1/10th the cost.

Fact is everything that allowed for superleague in the AFL enviroment had been anticpated and thwarted 10 years earlier by the VFL and its clubs.
The report commissioned by the AFL said you were heading for bankruptcy. The VFL/AFL may have fucked around and made a few changes internally, but externally nobody cared. Something that pisses you Southeners off - Nobody gives a fark about your game - never has and never will!

Murdoch's billions made it impossible for him not to get whatever he wanted.

Fred's usual crap .
it should be more of a friendly debate - it doesnt stop you proving people wrong - than the outright hostility that comes across a lot of the time. I think that its this that has driven away people as much as anything. Im as much to blame as anyone on that count.
I have no probs with friendlier debate .
I have problems with the continued outright bullshit posted by some & then the deflecting/running/avoiding what they claimed .
If they post it they should discuss it or at least show some proof or a source .
I cant think of any RL posters on here who run from something...right or wrong we stay & discuss .

It's those (well less the main offender) on your side who seem to have this down to a fine art .

There's discussion or debate
Then there's other crap .
