regarding Perth and League>>

PERTH are looking at entering a NSW CUP team
to grow grassroots,
so they could be a sign that expansion is 5 years away at least.

Union is withering on the vine. In qld they asked on the radio the other day whether it was still number 2? Or even number 3 of the footy codes here.

I'm not sure in Sydney but the old hatred between the two which has gone on for years as to which is better, more popular, more athletic has seemed to switch from rugby union onto afl from the league brigade.

spoke to my cousin-inlaw in Cairns a few weeks ago who is a big union. He said union is number 5 in Cairns now, behind RL, AFL, Soccer and hockey. RU clubs are closing regularly

Struggling on Gold Coast too. Here it would be rl, Aussie rules... and a throw up between soccer and rl however with junior numbers soccer I would think. Touch would also be up there.

Rugby in Australia is in a very sad state at the moment. This is what happens when grass roots is neglected and money is the only focus. Hopefully the ARU will bring in someone New who can turn things around. Only time will tell

what people from south of the Boarder might not understand..

is that NRL is not only competing with AFL it is also competing against UNION>>

both the NRL AND AFL have taken the fair share out of tradition Union heartlands>> in recent years..

especially AFL on the north side of Sydney (which was Union Heartland)

W.A Government have spent quite a lot of money on Union
to help it grow in the city...

ARU are really stupid..

Over the years the State had invested a significant amount of money towards the Force,” Mr McGowan said.
“What we’ll do is get to the bottom of any undertakings the ARU gave the State Government that underpinned the decisions to pour millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money into rugby.”
Apart from a $95 million upgrade to nib Stadium, that investment included $17 million into the Western Force headquarters and $25 million towards the Super Rugby licence.
+ 5million to host AUS V NZ

Thing is in seq there is at least a fairly strong local league and definetely players from Gold Coast and Queensland playing for the suns. Not too sure about giants but would think there are Sydney area players playing for giants ... I know there are for the suns at least lol. But I do think the Perth bid does have some structural pathways for locals.
