you're kidding yourself if you think a game starting at 9.30pm and finishing at 11.30 will rate well, live or not. It's outside prime-time when the majority of people watch TV. Sure, some fans will persist, but the ratings in prime time rely on more than just die hard RL fans.

you also have to factor in the dwindling ratings of the NRL http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 7054536927

The Daily Telegraph yesterday obtained the final TV ratings figures for the 26-round regular season, which reveal significant drops for all three official broadcasters — Channel Nine, Fox Sports, and Sky New Zealand.
Yes but we know they like to paint that picture, you know the one, the one where everything is down for Rugby League yet they never mentioned that millions of people have downloaded the nrl app and watch it elsewhere these days. They are so full of garbage.

awesome. Both sports are in the same boat yet its the NRL struggling. As I said, irrespective of the cause, diminishing ratings means a less promising TV deal

lol

Don't you talk about my footy like that.

Falling falling falling, have been for a few years as I said, both ratings and crowds. Lucky the adelaide oval came along aye, those crowds stopped the hemorrhaging for a while, wonder if the people will continue to go to the new ground in the same numbers this year seeing as a few might have gone just to see what it was like last year. It helped cover the Melbourne clubs falling crowds tho.

can you provide evidence the ratings and crowds are falling? The official figures say otherwise http://afltables.com/afl/crowds/summary.html

Sure, there was a reaction to new ticketing and scheduling from Melbourne clubs last year, but overall crowds still grew. Now that the AFL got the message any drop in this years crowds would be very surprising

If NRL expand it will push their broadcast price up a lot.

Will be decided at the end of the year how many, and what teams.

Expansions in Perth, Wellington or Qld seems to be the most likely.

crowds are way down compared to before they expanded.

The swans tv ratings for the gf only just managed to beat last weeks fnf match :(/

GWS inflate their crowds something shocking and you people know it, but you will not tell it, the ratings in Both NSW and Qld were down, where is the growth because I seen a bit of a drop off in Victoria as well.

Lions are shot with increasing debts and their crowds are waaaaaaaaaaay down.

The Suns are't doing much better well they can't really as their stadium is capped and they aren't at capacity yet, the ratings for both teams in Qld is horrendous. $12 million plus in debt are the lions, and they are the bigger of the two, so how much are the Suns on the Gold Coast costing the afl to pump along? Think about it.

NSW is worse off, the Swans gets some good attendances yet they have never been big on TV, if they start to drop, so do the crowds like any other club, but the swans can and do balls it up from time to time as we have seen over their lifetime in NSW. The Giants are a trainwreck, if the Lions and Swans and Suns are costing a bundle, I'd hate to think what this mob are doing to the afl's warchest

of course crowds are down compared to pre-expansion. How was a comp that averaged 36k ever going to maintain that average with 2 brand new teams starting support from scratch? Add to that there are almost twice the number of games now played outside Victoria Sa and WA. This is the price of expansion. However, once stabilised they continue to grow again like they were before expansion.

The Lions crowds are down, hardly surprising given theyve been on the bottom for near a decade. Maybe judge their following when they become a decent team again. You cannot compare the Swans GF ratings for popularity. They clearly had a massive amount of bandwagon viewers in their 2005 GF due to its novelty.

The criticism of the Suns and Giants is premature. We need to at least wait for them to become competitive before making judgements on following. What is clear is the Suns are doing better than the Titans though.

So, where are these decreasing ratings and crowds again?

Fairfax Media revealed early this month that only one-third of the clubs had achieved a profit last year, with the game's most challenging club - Greater Western Sydney - recording an operating loss of more than $500,000 despite the AFL pouring $20.16 million in grants into the fledgling club, $3.25 million more than originally budgeted. The Giants also suffered a fall in marketing and sponsorship income.

A Perth Game Shown Live in To Eastern States at 9:30pm will still get good ratings.
the reason it doesn't at the moment is because it is 2hours delayed and result is al ready known.
This can be done on Friday and Saturday nights.

there showing 2 live Games on Friday and the Saturday live game at 9:30pm
Which is Brilliant

It will be a Perth Hit in the crowds and the ratings for Friday Nights and good ratings off the back of live games in Eastern States.

They can also show Afternoon Games at 1pm in perth and Live at 3pm In Sydney on Saturday afternoon.
Sunday games Shown Live in perth 4:30pm Live in Sydney at 6:30pm sunday night.

PERTH Would be a huge asset.

extra Queensland team will just be Excellent bringing in more revenue as stated by Gyngell
Extra queensland team would ad an extra 100million He public Wants this and has stated this.
a game at 9.30 wont finish until 11.30. Sorry, youre dreaming if you think this would rate well. NRl supporters complain when their telecast is shown live at 8pm, so 90 minutes later would be a deal breaker for many.

You already have 3 QLD team, yet the Broncos are the only ones who rate in the mid 200's so adding another wont solve this

Perth rates terribly for RL, Having their own club wont change this any time soon
Your delusional if you think a Perth Rugby League club would not be successful.

They have financial backers already for a NRL team as well as healthy crowds whenever NRL games are played there.

Plenty of expats from NSW and Qld as well as the UK that would follow a Rugby League team in Perth.

West Coast Pirates are front runners for the bid too.

Hate to break the bad news to you Nlolrl but you didn't! The broadcasters of Rugby League, Fox, 9 , Telstra and sky got us as much or more. And the commission were in there first year. in the 2 years since we have 4 of the top 5 programs (last year 1,2 and 3 so enjoy that silver medal
