Police charge 15 people after chairs and rubbish thrown on field at Sydney Derby
By 9NEWS
3:07pm February 19, 2017

Police arrested 15 people with crowd violence and other offences during last night’s A-League soccer match between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Two men, aged 25 and 30, allegedly began brawling while exiting ANZ Stadium moments after the match ended, police said.

The 25-year-old man was allegedly knocked to the ground and assaulted.

Video obtained by 9NEWS appears to show the 30-year-old man being arrested by police officers at the scene.

He has since been charged with affray and granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on March 16.

The alleged brawl was one of many incidents which occurred throughout the night, police said.

Video captured inside the stadium showed chairs and rubbish being hurtled from the stands.

The attendee said fans began to erupt at the game’s conclusion, when a previously unbeaten Sydney FC lost the game to the Wanderers 1-0.

“It was a total disgrace and unacceptable behaviour,” he said.

“My family was mortified at the scenes and my four-year-old son was so scared.”

One police officer sustained a cut above his right eye after being struck by an object as the violent scenes unfolded.

It was Sydney’s first loss for the season, and their fans weren’t overly pleased with the result, causing havoc in the stands after the match by snapping chairs and tossing them onto the field in front of The Cove.

Can you really blame the fans? I mean nothing happens on the field apart from player tantrums, they go to entertain each other somehow.

Hate to say it. But am I the only one who finds this banner really funny. I know it was the wrong thing to do.
But you can't deny it gave a lot of people a laugh.

Just curious to know, if you were there with children and they asked you what that banner was about, how would you explain it to them?

Personally, I think it's a disgusting banner. Families attending sporting events shouldn't have to see such rubbish.

Well considering the TV Audience for 2010 World Cup (ie more than 20 minutes continuous) was 2.2 billion people (according to google) I think most would disagree.

or is it that those 2.2 billion have never been introduced to your little provincial game.
Lol so 1 in 3 people on the planet watched the final? fuck mate RL posters are sane compared to you, 1 in 3 people on the planet Lol.
Mate you can't deny Soccers supporter base is the envy of every other sport. And considering nearly have nation in the world tries to qualify for the world cup.
A few billion watching is probably accurate.

AFL is not even a recognised sport in most countries. Fifa could buy AFL and shut it down with the revenue it has.

I have been to a few Wanderers matches. And you don't usually see that many children there.

Is definitely not what you'd want your kids seeing I agree. But young blokes don't think like that when they are not parents. When they made that sign, kids seeing it would likely never have crossed their minds.
Would have been done soley to have a laugh and stir up the fc supporters.

I had my 6 year old at the game, usually have my 10 year old, guess what, my 6 year old didn't even see the banner, as he was watching the game, I didn't even see the banner, I reckon most people didn't see it until it was on the news/social media afterwards. It can't have been up for long.

So this comment 'think of the children' is a bit weird, was it wrong, yep, was it offensive, yep.

But don't cry 'think of the children' when hardly anyone actually saw it.

Ah lighten up man. Would have been comedy gold for heaps of people.
When I saw that sign, I could not stop laughing. :(/

The pic looked nothing like the actual fc coach either... so I don't know how people thought it was him straight away.

Can't agree with these comments. The behaviour of the WSW mob that did this are bringing their own game down. If soccer wants to get ahead in this country this behaviour has to be eliminated.
