RU claim their game is "played in heaven". So well it may be because it doesn't do that well on earth.
Probably the biggest fart in a bath is rl's banner "the greatest game".
Clearly it's not. Clearly it's not in Australia. Clearly it's not even in England where it was invented.
Clearly it's not in the world. That would be the "world game". No arrogance there. Soccer is played around the world.
Soccer should have stuck to the "world game" instead of trying to convert the noun "football" into an adjective.
Australian Football - says it so simply - football that is Australian designed and developed.
Fans of rl (both of them) say people disrespect rl when they refer to both rugby codes as "Rugby".
Well they are both contain "rugby" in their formal names.
Fans of rl (both of them) say people should refer to rl as "league", yet "league" is the level above "reserves".
It's not arrogance, but sheer stupidity to call a code after a common noun. We even have examples of RU "leagues".
Isn't the NRL a "rugby" league. Shouldn't it be a rl league - the NRLL.
So it'd be better for all if rl came out with a new name and slogan which concisely described the game.
e.g. THROWBALL - a great game for butheads derived from a game for bumsniffers

A game of NSWFL has out drawn a game of NSWRL so , yes, it;s a fair comparison.
Nice try Cos.

If anything AFL should ditch the name football. And call themselves handball. You use your hands to pass, you use your hands to take a mark. You use your hands to assist in kicking goals most of the time too. You use your hands to tackle too.
And now you think a sport that uses it hands most of the time is more deserving of the title football.

In Aussie rules you can't score a goal with your hand. It has to come off the attacking players foot and be untouched. Just thought I would clear that up for you. I do agree soccer is a predominantly game of using the foot more so than Aussie rules and definitely more so that either rugby code.

Are you not holding the ball with your hands when you kick a goal in AFL?Fred wrote: βSat Apr 08, 2017 11:33 amIn Aussie rules you can't score a goal with your hand. The ball still needs to come off the foot. Unlike soccer, how the ball goes through or into the goals matters in Aussie rules.NRL&NFLweLaughATafl wrote: βSat Apr 08, 2017 3:00 pmAre you not holding the ball with your hands when you kick a goal in AFL?Fred wrote: βSat Apr 08, 2017 11:33 amIn Aussie rules you can't score a goal with your hand. There is a lot more use of the hands than feet in AFL though.Fred wrote: βSat Apr 08, 2017 4:11 pmThe ball still needs to come off the foot. AFL looks like a bunch of male netballers with an oval ball. The sport does'nt even resemble a football code to 99% of the world.

Re: Arrogance in Football
I think the evolution of football has seen a change. Handball used to be reasonably underused ... with the aim simply to kick it long up the field. Handball started being used more around the 80s to break the lines and we saw more of a running/possession game. Then we saw the borrowing from soccer with the kicking back and across the ground to set up plays and find a moment to get it a player in position. We still see this. But in the last couple of years we have been seeing this high pace numerous quick handballs that I think is crap. I still think kicking is the major skill used however in Aussie rules.
