Police investigate Power fans over hotel flare

POLICE are investigating a group of Port Power fans over allegations they let off a flare at the Arkaba Hotel late this afternoon.

Arkaba Hotel management confirmed there had been an incident but declined to comment.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said a group of disappointed Power fans let off a flare in the upstairs area of the hotel at about 4pm after a scuffle with security guards.

"This group of fans, about 10 or 12 of them, once they realised the game was done and dusted, started being a bit vocal and using obscene language," he said.

"They all had Port paraphernalia on - scarves and jumpers and sorts of things.

"The security guards were called and these guys threatened the guards.

"They said things like `touch me and I'll put a bottle in your face' and things like that.

"There was a bit of a scuffle and some punches were thrown and one of them let off a flare.

"It smoked the whole room out and the side of the bar and the floor boards were all burnt."

"It wasn't all the Port supporters it was just an isolated group who I think all knew each other.

The eyewitness said the group had thrown punches at other patrons downstairs as they were escorted from the hotel.

A Metropolitan Fire Service spokesman said there had been no smoke or fire by the time crews arrived.
