Cheerleaders anger at 'slut' slur

AdvertisementBulldogs supporters have been accused of shouting abuse at South Sydney cheerleaders, hitting one with a can, at an Easter Monday NRL game.

The cheerleaders were called "sluts" and "whores" according to an email sent to Ray Hadley's 2GB radio show by one of the women's fathers this morning.

South Sydney cheerleader co-ordinator Monique Carroll, backed the allegations, saying one performer was hit by a can, leaving a mark on her shoulder.

However, a Souths supporter posting as "Gus" on The Pride and The Passion fansite, described the allegations as "bull".

"I was on that side near the [Bulldog] Army and the girls passed by a few times with no incident," he said.

"Also, in that area, the Bulldogs supporters were surrounded by police."

Telstra Stadium chief executive officer Ken Edwards said stadium staff found no evidence of the incident, but security camera footage would be reviewed.

"A Rabbitohs cheergirl told our security that objects were being thrown on to the arena, and security immediately sent extra staff to the north-west seating bowl.

"Once the security went to the specific area, they saw no objects being thrown nor heard any foul or abusive language.

"NSW Police had no reports of such incidents, but we will review the available CCTV footage.

"Cans and glass bottles are not sold inside Telstra Stadium and they are prohibited items at entry."

A Bulldogs spokesman declined to comment.

The father of one of the cheerleaders, whose name was not broadcast, sent an email to the Hadley show this morning stating: "As the girls were walking around the ground they were continually heckled and abused when walking past the Bulldogs supporters on the north western corner of Telstra Stadium at the Easter Monday clash.

"They were called all the names under sun like 'sluts', 'whores', etc. I'm sure you get the picture.

"However the most disturbing thing was the girls had things thrown at them.

"An aluminium can was thrown and hit one of the girls in her upper torso.

"After this incident security did follow the girls as they walked around but after all the warnings and issues with behaviour at Rugby League games, particularly involving Bulldogs supporters, something should be done."

Ms Carroll told the Hadley show the claim was true.

"I have to say that's right, yeah," she said. "In the first half of the game when Souths were actually leading - the girls did a lap around the oval as they do normally.

"They were called names that weren't very nice and one of the girls ... she had something thrown at her,

"And the red mark on her collarbone was the size of a golf ball."

Sure the Bulldogs supporters have a reputation, but the so called email to Hadley sounds like crap. Funny how stadium staff have heard nothing of these complaints until the Hadley program. Why an email too? Why not ring in with the complaint? Rolling Eyes

I love it how the ex taxi driver Hadley takes the moral high ground on issues such as abuse and swearing.... Laughing

Did anyone hear that tape of him at the Athens Olympics when he was giving some guy back in Oz an absolute bollocking... every second word was an expletive, and how Hadley was gunna "get him"...

Hypocrit Hadley can kiss my ass.....
