JASON Gillespie believes "good stats" are all England can take out of its crushing Test win over Bangladesh as Australia's cricketers begin formal preparations for their Ashes mission.

Woeful Bangladesh were smashed by an innings and 261 runs at Lord's at the weekend but England's win hasn't spooked an Australia team which gathers in Brisbane today for its pre-tour camp.
"As a player, you don't take a lot from those games except for good stats," Gillespie said.
"You can look at it from the point of view that time in the middle is good for batters against any opposition.
"Their bowlers still have to take the wickets. That wouldn't hurt their confidence but they know that it's not really competition compared to what we're going to give them."
England captain Michael Vaughan admitted as much when he said: "We didn't hit our straps. It's important we do against better opposition."
Gillespie unofficially started Australia's Ashes preparation yesterday when he joined South Australian teammates Shaun Tait and Dan Cullen in a training session at Allan Border Field.
Gillespie and Tait arrived in Brisbane two days earlier than their Ashes squad teammates for extra workouts at Cricket Australia's Centre of Excellence.
Australia leaves for London on Saturday, opening the tour with a triangular one-day series against England and Bangladesh.
The games against Bangladesh will be a waste of time and the cricket world must seriously reconsider whether the battling nation should have Test status. Its one-day status is also debatable.
Bangladesh's record is horrible - 22 Test losses by an innings from only 37 matches. It has suffered three of the 10 heaviest losses in Test history, despite not making its debut until 2000.
Australia still has six one-dayers, and a likely final, against England to land more psychological blows before the Ashes series starts at Lord's on July 21.
The players should be refreshed when they gather today after a two-month rest since strolling through the New Zealand tour.
Gillespie, the new ironman of international bowling, can't wait to return to England.
"They're pretty special tours. Playing in England, on those great grounds rich in history, is pretty cool. It's good fun," he said.
"Just training today, with the Aussie gear back on, makes you realise that it's pretty close.
"We've had a good break since New Zealand. Towards the end of that tour, I was thinking 'let's knock these guys over and get out of here'.
"It was purely a mental thing and it was one of the more challenging tours I had been on. But I feel great physically."
Gillespie, 30, looked slick yesterday and admitted he had been training at home in Adelaide, taking advantage of the fine weather.
The right-arm quick is in good shape and ready for 15 weeks on the road. There are no longer question marks over whether Gillespie's body will stay healthy for that period of time.
