Melbourne and North Melbourne are not safe. Potential changes to the ASD could see them and the Bulldogs gone. North should have taken the Gold Coast option on offer. Oh well.

I've been saying this for a long time. Ten clubs is too many. Has to go back to eight. One to the Gold Coast - and I agree with Beau. The other to Canberra.

Canberra is interesting however Manuka would need a massive redevelopment. Shame Canberra Stadium (formerly Bruce Stadium) was converted to rectangular shape for the Olympics. Would have been a great venue for AFL games in Canberra.

No, Kaskill, they don't have the finances to support it.

Beau, I don't think Manuka needs as much work as you think. True - it does need work and the most important thing is lights. The other thing about Manuka is if it was worked on it could also host a higher level of cricket instead of just the PM's XI game. Bruce Stadium was always going to be square because of where it is (as a part of the AIS) so it was never an option really.

Now is actually the time to pounce because both the Raiders and the Brumbies are struggling and there's no representation for basketball or soccer.

Went to a couple of AFL pre season games there. Still a shame it was converted to a rectangular stadium for the olympics. Manuka needs heaps of work from what I've seen when watching games there. Only has one grandstand and that is nothing special and as you pointed out, no lights either.

Used to live in Canberra, Kaskill.

Beau, there are two stands at Manuka (unless they tore one down since I was last there). But I never said it didn't need work aside from the lights, purely because the capacity needs to be raised. Can't remember what it is at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it's no higher than 15,000.

I think capacity is closer to just under 14,000. Went to a game a few seasons back and there was 13,000 odd and the place was chockers. Oh and yes, you're right there is a temporary looking stand as well as the main grandstand. Nothing special. Interesting development today with Melbourne saying they want to play another game in Canberra next season for the money it offers.

No - permanent stand, Beau. Both on the western side (scoreboard is on the eastern side) and next to each other. The main one (where the facilities and ACT footy offices are), and the one next to it towards the Manuka shopping area. Has open boxes in it - if you follow me on that.
