Fremantle's surge up the AFL ladder has sparked a corresponding jump in membership sales with the club announcing on Monday that it has already passed last year's record membership total of 35,666 and is on course to pass 40,000 members for the first time.

The Dockers' third-placed finish in 2006 coupled with supporter optimism flowing from the club's talent-laden list and the off-season signing of star forward Chris Tarrant saw the club break the 39,000-member mark on Monday before a ball has been kicked in anger in 2007.

"This is an outstanding result for the club ahead of the opening round of the NAB Cup this Sunday," chief executive officer Cameron Schwab said.

"The membership team have been literally inundated with new member applications and have been working late into the evening and over weekends processing these applications.

"Our new membership level represents an increase in our membership of over 9 per cent on our record 35,666 members set in 2006."

Fremantle has recorded successive increases in membership since the 2002 season with the previous largest jump coming between 2003 and 2004 when 6912 extra members signed up.

Schwab was optimistic the club is in a good position to better that mark this season.

"A few weeks ago, I mentioned that a target of 40,000 members loomed as realistic," he said.

"The club can now expect to reach that milestone and if current trends continue that may very well occur in the opening rounds of the home and away season, an outstanding achievement for our club."
