Well after training and now playing my first pre season game of footy in sydney i must say the standard is pretty good. Its probably a notch above afl in alice springs however one notch above in a city of 4 million compared to a town of 27000 isnt something to boast about. In any case its good to see sydneysiders taking the game seriously...three 2 hour training sessions a week in preseason training that began in early january.
The coaching is impressive, and the games surprisingly fast. I'm thinking though that their is a lack of quality ovals here in sydney. The one we played on other players thought was a good field and apparently its where finals are played. Personally i thought it was a **** oval compared to the three i played on in the territory. _________________

| Lack of decent grounds is a very real issue for footy in Sydney. Hopefully the AFL can spend some of the new broadcasting rights bonanza money on ensuring more quality grounds are made available right throughout Sydney/NSW, particularly for junior footy. |
