Caught a bit of the cricket last night and looking at the ground facilities started wondering why it is that cricket in England is played out of what looks like local county grounds. The standard of the grounds is pathetic when compared to cricket grounds/stadiums in Australia, India or other cricket nations around the world.

My question is, why if the game first came from England has there been no push to build big stadiums like the other cricket nations of the world. Is it simply a case of there is no demand? Could England ever match for instance, an SCG or MCG crowd?
